Baltaysky District (Russian: Балтайский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[5] district (raion), one of the thirty-eight in Saratov Oblast, Russia. It is located in the north of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,254 square kilometers (484 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Baltay.[2] Population: 12,282 (2010 Census);[3] 13,722 (2002 Census);[8] 12,400 (1989 Soviet census).[9] The population of Baltay accounts for 31.5% of the district's total population.[3]
