LMTK2 enzim pripada familiji proteinskihtirozinskih kinaza. On sadrži N-terminusne transmembranske heliksae i dug C-terminusni citoplasmatični rep sa serin/treonin/tirozinskom kinaznom aktivnošću. Ovaj protein formira interakcije sa nekoliko drugih proteina, kao što su inhibitor-2 (Inh2), protein fosfataza-1 (PP1C), p35, i miozin VI. On fosforiliše druge proteine, i biva fosforilisan posredstvom ciklin zavisne kinaze 5 (cdk5)/p35 kompleksa. Ovaj protein učestvuje u signalizaciji nervnog faktora rasta (NGF)-TrkA, kao i u endozomnoj membranskoj razmeni. Studije na miševima sugerišu da ovaj protein ima esencijalnu ulogu u spermatogenizi.[2]
