- The result of the discussion was: no consensus. (non-admin closure) Queen of Hearts (talk) 03:08, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Nominator's rationale: Per WP:OCVENUE which explicitly mentions these categories as an example which should be avoided "Likewise, avoid categorizing events by their hosting locations. Many notable locations (e.g. Madison Square Garden) have hosted so many sports events and conventions over time that categories listing all such events would not be readable." A previous discussion at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2024_June_30#Category:Madison_Square_Garden resulted in it being purged with similar subcategories being deleted. Flibirigit (talk) 16:22, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Support as the nominator of the previous discussion. Since there is no consensus to alter OCVENUE, it should be enforced.--User:Namiba 16:42, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Shouldn't most subcats of Category:Events by venue also be removed by the same logic? I'm also trying to understand the reasoning behind WP:OCVENUE, which says not to do this because the category would be too big. I don't think the category would become overly large because the vast majority of MSG events do not have a dedicated Wikipedia page. If it did become too large, segmenting by year / decade seems to make more sense than deleting the category? --Habst (talk) 18:34, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- In the previous deletion dicsussion, there were more bloated subcats including conferences and conventions, in addition to many sporting events such as boxing, UFC, wrestling, and so forth. Flibirigit (talk) 19:28, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- @Flibirigit, thanks, what do you think about adding the "Events at..." subcats of Category:Events by venue to this discussion as well? --Habst (talk) 20:17, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Probably better to start a separate discussion. This nomination began because of the previous discussion at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2024_June_30#Category:Madison_Square_Garden . Flibirigit (talk) 21:11, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Yes they should be deleted. We don't sort events by venue for the same reason we don't sort performers by performance WP:PERFCAT.--User:Namiba 16:08, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
- Strongly oppose We just had this discussion which regards to Boxing matches and I stand by that precedent. Sam11333 (talk) 10:54, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

- Oppose We agree that "place" is defining and the way we handle larger categories is through diffusion so, while Plattsburgh (town), New York barely justifies 1 category, New York City has many place-based subcats to aid navigation: Category:42nd Street (Manhattan), Category:Rockefeller Center, Category:People from Roosevelt Island, Category:Music of Harlem, Category:Grand Central Terminal, Category:Central Park, Category:Parades in New York City, Category:Columbia University campus,Category:Drinking establishments in Greenwich Village, Category:Public middle schools in Brooklyn, Category:Novels set in Manhattan, Category:Whitney Museum of American Art, Category:Scientists from the Bronx, and Category:Restaurants in Queens. And none of those are WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS from my perspective; those are all defining and helpful for navigation as are the MSG ones. WP:OCVENUE warns abot categories that are too large to navigate and the nominated ones don't have that problem; in fact they break up large city categories. - RevelationDirect (talk) 10:35, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

- Nominator's rationale: Eponymous category for a band, with no other content but the eponym. As always, bands can have a dedicated category if they have a significant volume of spinoff content besides just their main article, but do not automatically get one just to hold their main article and nothing else -- but there's absolutely nothing else that can be filed here, as even their albums don't have separate articles at all. - Nominator's rationale: Category with just one entry.
Note- This is also the only entry in 'Sportspeople from Paillaco'. If this category is deleted, it would save time to bypass Sportspeople otherwise another CFD would be needed. Lost in Quebec (talk) 08:49, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
