Luninsky District (Russian: Лу́нинский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[6] district (raion), one of the twenty-seven in Penza Oblast, Russia. It is located in the north of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,705 square kilometers (658 sq mi).[2] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Lunino.[1] Population: 19,944 (2010 Census);[3] 23,247 (2002 Census);[8] 26,211 (1989 Census).[9] The population of Lunino accounts for 39.6% of the district's total population.[3]
