Bashmakovsky District (Russian: Башмако́вский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[6] district (raion), one of the twenty-seven in Penza Oblast, Russia. It is located in the west of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,618 square kilometers (625 sq mi).[2] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Bashmakovo.[1] Population: 23,304 (2010 Census);[3] 25,159 (2002 Census);[8] 28,032 (1989 Soviet census).[9] The population of Bashmakovo accounts for 44.7% of the district's total population.[3]
