The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Organizations listed by the United States as foreign agents. bibliomaniac15 03:33, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Propose renaming Category:Organizations listed as a U. S. foreign agent to Category:Organizations listed as a foreign agent in the United States Category:Organizations listed in the United States as foreign agents.
Nominator's rationale: The wording "U.S. foreign agent" is misleading, especially that the "foreign agent" label is also applied to entities operating in Russia. Additionally, the U. S. spelling violates MOS. I'm proposing a rename to a less ambiguous name. — kashmīrī TALK 21:05, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename all. bibliomaniac15 03:37, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: After Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2022 February 15#Category:Law of the United Kingdom I realize that the use of demonyms in categories is a bad idea. Thus I propose to rename all subcategories in Category:Law by country. @James500, Laurel Lodged, and Peterkingiron: pinging editors from the old discussion. The result of the discussion was: keep (non-admin closure) Marcocapelle (talk) 07:14, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: I propose to rename not only this categories, but all subcategories. Now this categories also includes UN member states not recognised by at least one UN member state, i. e. Israel, China, Armenia, Cyprus, South and North Koreas. But subcategories are mostly only for de facto states, this branch are parallel to Category:Categories by country for UN member states. Thesmp (talk) 08:56, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Strongly Oppose It directly states at the top of the category that: "The main article for this category is List of states with limited recognition." Renaming it to Category:De facto states would not make any sense, as the only entries within the category are "states with limited recognition", as the article defines them. Israel, China, Armenia, Cyprus, South Korea, and North Korea are all within the present category anyway. De facto states, as an article, does not even exist, and the De facto state page is just a redirect to the aforementioned list article. Propose renaming the article before proposing that the category gets renamed. - Wiz9999 (talk) 10:22, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wiz9999, I didn't get my point, I'm perfectly OK with the title List of states with limited recognition. Israel, China, Armenia, Cyprus, South Korea, and North Korea shoule be in this list because they enjoy only limited recognition. I'm talking about subcategories of Category:States with limited recognition, i. e. Category:Coats of arms of unrecognized or largely unrecognized states, Category:Constitutions of unrecognized or largely unrecognized states, Category:Geography by states with limited recognition‎ etc. Should they contain all states with limited recognition, including Israel, China, Armenia, Cyprus, South and North Koreas? --Thesmp (talk) 10:33, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see why not. Israel, China, Armenia, Cyprus, South Korea, and North Korea are all states with limited recognition. This wording: "of unrecognized or largely unrecognized states" is from an old category (Category:Unrecognized or largely unrecognized states) that was recently put up for deletion, as all its entries were migrated into the more appropriately worded Category:States with limited recognition. If anything, it's all those subcategories that need renaming now, to "of states with limited recognition". - Wiz9999 (talk) 10:45, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose Agree with Wiz9999, apart from points made by him, it is clear that Israel and China, for example, are de jure states and not merely de facto. It is better to follow the main article divisions for these things without further subdivision.Selfstudier (talk) 11:15, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wiz9999, Selfstudier I do not insist, that it is why I opened this discussion. Just to clarify what I proposed: rename category and remove Israel, China, Armenia, Cyprus, South and North Koreas from it and all subcategories. --Thesmp (talk) 12:52, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I understood, not needed though.Selfstudier (talk) 13:03, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose. The current category name captures the intended meaning very well. "De facto", on the other hand, would be fairly confusing. — kashmīrī TALK 21:07, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose - the current title is fine, per WP:BROKE. As mentioned above "de facto" could be confusing in some situations. Inter&anthro (talk) 03:38, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose, outside maybe the occasional edge case, most states are de facto states, so this isn't the best name for the category. CMD (talk) 08:16, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
