Article of the month - Fittipaldi Automotive, current Good Article Review
Fittipaldi Automotive, sometimes called Copersucar after its first major sponsor, was the only Formula One motor racing team and constructor ever to be based in Brazil. It was formed during 1974 by racing driver Wilson Fittipaldi and his younger brother, double world champion Emerson, with money from the Brazilian sugar and alcohol cooperative Copersucar. In 1976 Emerson surprised the motor racing world by leaving the title-winning McLaren team to drive for the unsuccessful family outfit. Future world champion Keke Rosberg took his first podium finish in Formula One with the team. The team was based in São Paulo, almost 6,000 miles (10,000 km) away from the centre of the world motor racing industry in the UK, before moving to Reading, UK during 1974. It participated in 119 grands prix between 1975 and 1982, entering a total of 156 cars. It achieved 3 podiums and scored 44 championship points. Hi, I see you added the armament details. Were the guns indeed 86 mm ? I've never heard of this calibre in German service, but the photos appear to match an "8.8 cm" L/45 gun mentioned in http://navweaps.com/Weapons/WNGER_88mm-45_skc13.htm regards, Rod. Hi Trekphiler. I guess I was thinking of the Cosworth DFV, which the Cosworth article indicates was built on "a custom Cosworth cylinder block and crankcase" (in contrast to the earlier FVA, which indeed was based on a Ford block). It's also my understanding that the subsequent "Ford" and "Cosworth" F1 engines were designed and built completely by Cosworth (although I'm less confident about that). P.S. I'm interested in your use of the term "Sipowiczed" - I'm familiar with the character (although I never watched the show), but I've never heard anyone use his name as a verb before. Regards. Thank you for your comments and edits to Battle between HMAS Sydney and German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran (or whatever the title may be when you look at the article next). I have responded to your comments played around with your changes... feel free to wander by and see if they still meet your intentions. -- saberwyn 20:37, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
A crashed enemy aircraft is first of all a good source of intelligence - which is why the Brits routinely posted a sentry to guard it until an intelligence officer had had a chance to go over it. Nonetheless, many items of equipment were "souvenired" anyway. While there might not have been a systematic effort to link crashes with victory claims it certainly happened - in Reach for the Sky there is mention of Bader reporting shooting at a German reconnaisance aircraft that he believed had got away - and being credited with the kill when its wreck was discovered. The German (and especially the Nazi) mindset WAS a little different - not only did propaganda come before intelligence but they seem to have been convinced by their own propaganda very often. (Adolf Galland is good on this subject.) tracking references can be a pain - will do so when I have a moment!--Soundofmusicals (talk) 23:43, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
You say my edit to the Future of F1 section was unconstructive, I corrected a title so that it worked, what was unconstructive about that edit. Please check your facts before responding like that. After you reverted my edit someone else came along and removed the typo again, you going to revert that one too? --81.151.235.127 (talk) 23:58, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Can you take a look and see if I have made it a bit more understandable. Because Qikiqtaarjuk just means "little island" it was a bit difficult to research. There is a second Qikiqtaarjuk, featured in Atanarjuat and associated with Inuit legends, which was also a separate island but now forms part of Igloolik Island. The join between Igloolik Island and Qikiqtaarjuk was caused by post-glacial rebound (isostatic rebound), see here, and I suspect that the same has happened here but can't confirm that. If it's still not clear please let me know what needs to be done. Thanks. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 07:25, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

hi Trekphiler, greetings! I saw your actions on SM U-108, deleting the Room 40 sources. I agree, I think this corresponds to the original idea of a "dynamic" editing project. Once the content of the original sources of Room 40 have been transmitted into a more normal "narrative" history telling with footnotes, they become - formally - superfluous.
2 logical consequences I see from this (pls compare SM U-108 with SM U-92):

Article of the month - 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix, current Peer Review candidate.
The 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix (formally the XXIII ING Magyar Nagydíj) was a Formula One motor race held on August 3, 2008 at the Hungaroring, Budapest, Hungary. It was the eleventh race of the 2008 Formula One season. The race, contested over 70 laps, was won by Heikki Kovalainen for the McLaren team after starting from second position. Timo Glock finished second in a Toyota car, with Kimi Räikkönen third in a Ferrari. It marked Kovalainen's first Formula One victory, which made him the sport's 100th driver to win a World Championship race, and it was also Glock's first podium finish. Much of the race, however, was dominated by a duel between Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa, who drove for McLaren and Ferrari respectively. Hamilton started from pole position on the starting grid but was beaten into the first corner by Massa, who passed him around the outside. The two championship protagonists commenced a battle for the lead that was resolved when Hamilton suffered a puncture just over half-way through the race, giving Massa a comfortable lead. The Ferrari's engine, however, failed with three laps of the race remaining, allowing Kovalainen to take the win. Hello, you reverted my removal of "potential" in the Squid article. I have undone your reversion.
As far as my sense of English goes, in the phrase "suitable for a potential fleet action" "potential" is superfluous. Something is either suitable for a fleet action or not. The likelihood of a fleet action has no bearing on the suitability; even if it never happened, it would still be suitable or not.
Would you mind discussing before reverting again? Pietrow ☏ 13:51, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
Well, Trek. It certainly appears that you've come to a standstill regarding all this "derelection of duty" nonsense on the referenced page. I intend to edit the offending verbiage. Change it back if you must, but be advised that, in an edit war, you'll come in last. Best Regards, Dukeford (talk) 01:24, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
I see that you reversed my edits. Did you bother to read the guidance provided by ALR on the discussion page? Dukeford (talk) 01:55, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
We probably should have discussed this in more detail before entering into an edit war, Trek. I have no problem with pointing the finger at BuOrd, but the dereliction of duty thing goes too far. Regards, Dukeford (talk) 02:46, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
We could find a way to address the BuOrd issues, and perhaps the Pacific senior sub command situation, too. But we cannot make it appear that we are passing judgement on either party. Yes, the problems existed, but in the naval climate of that time they were hardly surprising. There were numerous other incidents of poor ship handling, mismanagement of task forces, supply problems, etc. Those commanders (from admirals on down) who failed were not derelict in their duty, or even negligent. They just didn't measure up. Dukeford (talk) 19:03, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Article of the month - List of Formula One drivers, kept at Featured List status after review
Formula One, abbreviated to F1, is the highest class of open-wheeled auto racing defined by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body. The "formula" in the name refers to a set of rules to which all participants and cars must conform. The F1 world championship season consists of a series of races, known as Grands Prix, held usually on purpose-built circuits, and in a few cases on closed city streets. Drivers are awarded points based on their position in each race, and the driver who accumulates the most points over each calendar year is crowned that year's World Champion. As of the 2009 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, there have been 820 FIA World Championship races since its first event, the 1950 British Grand Prix. Seven-time champion Michael Schumacher holds the record for the most championships, while his 91 wins, 154 podium finishes and 68 pole positions are also records. Rubens Barrichello has entered more Grands Prix than anyone else—288 times in total—as well as having made an unsurpassed 284 race starts. The United Kingdom is the most represented nation, having produced a total of 157 different drivers. Eight nations have been represented by just one. Poland became the latest country to be represented by a driver when Robert Kubica made his Formula One debut at the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix. Regarding this edit summary, please do not drop unfounded accusations of vandalism. Had you bothered to look more closely, you would have noted that the edit I undid removed a valid source in order to replace it with a new one and it also added unsourced content to the article. I'm not entirely sure if your "vandalism" comment was a tilt toward an AN/I report I filed yesterday about another editor's use of that accusation, but if it was, it was uncalled for. If it wasn't, then returning valid sourcing that was removed without explanation is a completely valid revert, especially when the cite that was added to replace an already existing one did not support the content it was placed after. Wildhartlivie (talk) 09:48, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
How can Offensive (military) overstate the case? This operation was not just one raid but took part between 13 February and 15 February 1945. It is a correct term and adds to the grammatical structure of the sentence. Could we discus this and see either to re-implement the word or compose an alternative? --BSTemple (talk) 13:15, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
A couple things:
First, ((WikiProjectBanners)) is only to be used if there's six or more tags. Use ((WikiProjectBannerShell)) if there's three to five, and use nothing if there's only two.
Secondly, even if you're the article creator you can still tag it as a stub if the article is marked as a stub. I've been trying to cut down the backlog of unassessed articles but it's not helping when there's new unassessed articles coming in that could've easily been taken care of.
Thanks. --Sable232 (talk) 20:05, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

I see from the motorsport terminology article that you understand drag racing classes much better than I do. Would you please review the Eddie Hill article to make sure that the classes names make sense? I am pretty sure that they make sense since I had a drag racing friend review the article and he had his friend Eddie Hill review the article too. I think all the information should be in the main article, and I have copied the content in the main article before redirecting, contrary to what you write. We have a nice full size article and all you have now is a set of six-lines stubs. Besides, these articles are merely copies of a book and borderline copyvio. I thought it made more sense to group all this family of cars in a single article - like they have on the German wikipedia. Therefore, I suggest a merge of the three articles. Article of the month - Grand Prix 2, current Peer Review
Grand Prix 2, sometimes known as "GP2" and sold in the American market as Grand Prix II, is a racing simulator released by MicroProse in 1996. It was made under an official FIA license that featured the Formula One 1994 season, with all of the circuits, teams, drivers and cars. The cars were painted with liveries reflecting the races that did not allow tobacco and beer sponsors (i.e. 1994 French Grand Prix). It had 3D texture mapping and SVGA graphics, as well as an early but realistic physics engine. A large community of GP2 enthusiasts formed quickly and still exists today. Grand Prix 2 is recognized as one of the definitive racing simulations of its era. Hi, regarding the edit to the Karl Dönitz, I thought mentioning the fact that Himmler was expelled from the Nazi Party was relevant. Please don't be too bold. A lot of work went into this Chevrolet Vega article. It's neutality has already been addressed with a full Criticisms section. I don't think a Chevy promo piece would have that. I won't delete anything you add. Don't delete my work. The ads add to the article and show Chevrolet's advertising (an important aspect of the car's poularity) The lead of the section explains the ads were used to promote awards won by the car(Vegavairbob (talk) 13:53, 7 March 2010 (UTC))
That was their biggest mistake, selling the 215. That 215 aluminum engine weighes only 40 pounds more than the Vega engine....would've been perfect for the Vega, had steel sleeves, and wouldn't have affected the handling (as was the case of the cast iron V8s in the Monza) The idea though was to market the Vega as an economy car so I don't think they would have used it anyway regardless. But GM sold it years before in '65 after phasing it out of the Buick/Olds compact line in 1963. The 215 makes for the best Vega swap I think, (bolts in with existing drivetrain & driveshaft) but it wasn't popular. Recently I saw one for sale on ebay!! A company in Georgia, D&D Fabrications still sells a swap kit and has hundreds of 215 engines (in a wrecking yard)...MT did a test in '75 on their swap titled the $800. V8 Vega.(Vegavairbob (talk) 16:29, 7 March 2010 (UTC))

Also, I noticed from your contributions that you do quite a bit of vandal-reverting. Would you be interested in having rollback rights being granted to your account? It would make vandal-reverting a little easier for you. Acalamari 23:37, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Hey, I saw that you undid my changes in the article. I changed that because the way it is said in the article implies that "today's historians" are right while the commission is not. But actually the commission is made out of 13 historians as well, and one of (Götz Bergander) them even reverted his estimation on which the numbers of the so-called "today's historians" rely. Sorry for the mistake with the word "historician", I am not a native speaker, but you should rather correct a mistake like that than undo it. --118.143.20.190 (talk) 11:22, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

Article of the month - 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix, current Featured Article candidate.
The 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix (formally the XXIII ING Magyar Nagydíj) was a Formula One motor race held on August 3, 2008, at Hungaroring in Mogyoród, near Budapest, Hungary. It was the 11th race of the 2008 Formula One season. Contested over 70 laps, the race was won by Heikki Kovalainen for the McLaren team, from a second position start. Timo Glock finished second in a Toyota car, with Kimi Räikkönen third in a Ferrari. It marked Kovalainen's first Formula One victory, which made him the sport's 100th driver to win a World Championship race, and Glock's first podium finish. Much of the race, however, was dominated by a duel between Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa, who drove for McLaren and Ferrari respectively. Hamilton started from pole position on the starting grid but was beaten at the first corner by Massa, who passed him around the outside. The two championship protagonists commenced a battle for the lead that was resolved when Hamilton suffered a puncture just over half-way through the race, giving Massa a comfortable lead. The Ferrari's engine, however, failed with three laps of the race remaining, allowing Kovalainen to take the win. Hi Trekphiler -- per Wikipedia:WikiProject Ships/Guidelines, "the" is unnecessary in ship names, but is not incorrect either. This article has consistently used "the" for many years now. Although this issue is outside the scope of the policy on regional variations in English usage, the same basic principle applies: leave it as you found it unless it's actually wrong. Article of the month – Ayrton Senna, current B-Class article.
Ayrton Senna da Silva, (pronounced [aˈiɾtõ ˈsenɐ da ˈsiwvɐ] ⓘ; São Paulo, March 21, 1960, – Bologna Italy May 1, 1994) was a Brazilian racing driver and three-time Formula One world champion. He was killed in a crash while leading the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, and remains the most recent Grand Prix driver to die at the wheel of a Formula One car. Senna began his motorsport career in karting and moved up the ranks to win the British Formula 3 championship in 1983. Making his Formula One debut with Toleman in 1984, he moved to Lotus-Renault the following year, and won six Grands Prix over the next three seasons. In 1988 he joined Frenchman Alain Prost at McLaren-Honda. Between them, Senna and Prost won fifteen out of the sixteen Grands Prix which took place that season, with Senna winning his first World Championship, a title he would go on to win again in 1990 and 1991. McLaren's performance declined in 1992, as the Williams-Renault combination began to dominate the sport, although Senna won five races to finish as runner-up in 1993. He moved to Williams in 1994, but suffered a fatal accident at the third race of the season at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Italy. Senna is regarded as one of the greatest drivers in the history of Formula One. In 2009, a poll of 217 current and former Formula One drivers chose Senna as their greatest Formula One driver, in a survey conducted by British magazine Autosport. He was recognised for his qualifying speed over one lap and from 1989 until 2006 held the record for most pole positions. He was among the most talented drivers in extremely rain-affected conditions, as shown by his performances in the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix, the 1985 Portuguese Grand Prix, and the 1993 European Grand Prix. He also holds the record for most victories at the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix (6) and is the third most successful driver of all time in terms of race wins. However, Senna courted controversy throughout his career, particularly during his turbulent rivalry with Alain Prost, which was marked by two championship-deciding collisions at the 1989 and 1990 Japanese Grands Prix. Article of the month – Bruce McLaren, current Start-Class article.
Bruce Leslie McLaren (30 August 1937 – 2 June 1970), born in Auckland, New Zealand, was a race-car designer, driver, engineer and inventor. His name lives on in the McLaren team which has been one of the most successful in Formula One championship history, with McLaren cars and drivers winning a total of 20 world championships. McLaren cars totally dominated CanAm sports car racing with 56 wins, a considerable number of them with him behind the wheel, between 1967 and 1972 (and five constructors’ championships), and have won three Indianapolis 500 races, as well as 24 Hours of Le Mans and 12 Hours of Sebring. As a nine year old, McLaren contracted Perthes disease in his hip which left his left leg shorter than the right. He spent two years in traction, but later often had a slight limp. Les and Ruth McLaren, his parents, owned a service station and workshop in Remuera, Auckland. Bruce spent all of his free hours hanging around the workshop. The McLaren family homestead is located in Ngaruawahia in the Northern Waikato region and still stands today. Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 20:39, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

You would truly want to stick with "in the chin"? I would have thought being more specific as to the location of the guns was a little more encyclopaedic; "in the chin" makes me visualise the Mustang scratching under there occasionally to decide whether it needs a shave (besides which the Mustang has no real chin cf. [say] the Typhoon). Not to mention the fact that the weapons needed interruptor gear, which is otherwise nowhere to be seen in the article. Minorhistorian (talk) 11:03, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Article of the month – McLaren M2B, new Good Article.
The McLaren M2B was the McLaren team's first Formula One racing car, used during the 1966 season. It was conceived in 1965 and preceded by the M2A development car. Designed by Robin Herd, the innovative but problematic Mallite material was used in its construction. The car was powered by Ford and Serenissima engines but both lacked power and suffered from reliability issues. Driven by team founder Bruce McLaren, the M2B had a short Grand Prix career, entering six races and starting only four. It scored the team's first point at the British Grand Prix and two more points at the United States Grand Prix. Hi Trekphiler. GEL Motorsport indicates that Mariette Delangle drove a Bugatti in the 1931 Grand Prix de la Marne, Grand Prix de Dieppe, Circuit du Dauphiné, Grand Prix du Comminges, Gran Premio di Monza and Grand Prix de la Baule. It doesn't list her for the 1931 Italian Grand Prix. I generally find this site to be complete and accurate. You may also care to inquire at WT:MOTOR. Hope this helps. Regards. Just to write to you as you chose to add customizers to that list when it is for those who had a significantly notable career in motorsport, what I want to point out is since when Von Dutch, Big Daddy Roth and Posie ever became involved in motorsport or have a notable career in building, designing or driving a racecar, therefore this is why I removed customizers from that list unless they have notable involment in motorsport as this is what this list is for.
Ant as in Anthony Davidson, I would rather exclude that as there is plenty of people named Anthony nicknamed Ant for example Ant & Dec, also as suggested on its mother list which you were involved in the discussion to agree removing them. As mentioned, if I allowed Ant, then we will be cluttered with lists of people nicked Bill, Al, Bob or whatever. Donnie Park (talk) 22:29, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Article of the month – 2008 Japanese Grand Prix, featured on the Main Page.
The 2008 Japanese Grand Prix (formally the XXXIV Fuji Television Japanese Grand Prix) was a Formula One motor race held on October 12, 2008, at the Fuji Speedway, Oyama, Japan. It was the 16th race of the 2008 Formula One season. The race, contested over 67 laps, was won by Fernando Alonso for the Renault team from fourth position on the starting grid. Robert Kubica finished second for BMW Sauber, and Kimi Räikkönen third for Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton, the eventual Drivers' Champion, led the Championship going into the race, and started from pole position alongside Räikkönen. Hamilton's McLaren teammate Heikki Kovalainen began from third, next to Alonso. At the first corner Hamilton braked late, forcing Räikkönen wide. Hamilton was later given a penalty, and was criticised by the British racing press for overly aggressive driving. Ferrari driver Felipe Massa, Hamilton's principal Championship rival, was penalised after an incident on lap two in which he touched Hamilton's car, causing it to spin. The incident dropped Hamilton to the back of the field, from where he was unable to regain a pointscoring position. Massa later collided with Sébastien Bourdais of Toro Rosso. Bourdais was penalised after the race, and demoted from sixth to tenth position. The penalty prompted widespread criticism from the racing media and ex-drivers. The victory was Alonso's second consecutive win; he started from 15th on the grid to win the Singapore Grand Prix two weeks prior. Kubica held off a determined attack from Räikkönen in the closing laps to take second place. Massa's seventh place narrowed his gap to Hamilton in the Drivers' Championship to five points. Ferrari established a seven point lead over the McLaren team in the Constructors' Championship, with two races of the season remaining. There wasn't much of a rationale given for erasure except to point to discussion on the President of the United States talk page (where they're battling about deleting the criticism section for the US president.) I think any article on the US Congress that doesn't have criticism in it (since large swaths of the US public don't like or respect the Congress and don't even know the names of their congresspersons) is highly POV. Article of the month – Brabham BT49, new Good Article
The Brabham BT49 (pronounced /ˈbræbəm/) is a Formula One racing car designed by South African Gordon Murray for the British Brabham team. The BT49 competed in the 1979 to 1982 Formula One World Championships and was used by Brazilian driver Nelson Piquet to win his first World Championship in 1981. The car was initially designed in 1979 as a short notice replacement for the team's Alfa Romeo-engined BT48, after Brabham team owner Bernie Ecclestone decided to end his relationship with the Italian engine manufacturer. The BT49 was created in only six weeks using elements of the BT48 chassis together with the widely used Cosworth DFV engine. It is a single seater with an open cockpit and exposed wheels. The monocoque chassis is made from aluminium alloy and carbon fibre composites. The car was fitted with controversial hydropneumatic suspension and water-cooled brakes at different points in its life. The BT49 was updated over four seasons taking a total of seven wins, six poles and 135 points. Seventeen were eventually built, most of which survive today. Some are used successfully in historic motorsport; Christian Glaesel won the 2005 FIA Historic Formula One Championship driving a BT49D. I am not sure that "The Black Pit" is properly categorized as a "Royal Air Force command", as you have it on your development page with Category:Royal Air Force commands. --Bejnar (talk) 14:39, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
