Metoprolol

Hello Edgar and Happy New Year!

For this compound on w:fr:Métoprolol, there are 2 CAS numbers for the racemate :

Could you explain the difference between them ? and verify the other CAS numbers on the french page, please. Thanks in advance --Titou (talk) 12:46, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

@The Titou: 51384-51-1 is the CAS number for racemic metoprolol. Chemical Abstracts lists 37350-58-6 as a "Deleted CAS Registry Number" which was formerly assigned to racemic metoprolol. The other CAS numbers in the French article are all correct. I would just remove 37350-58-6. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:59, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Glycerol stearates

Greetings and Happy New Year. Check out glycerol monostearate. I was thinking of what to do with the composition since there are three stereoisomers (2- and d vs l 1-). What would you recommend - all clumped together? One approach would be separate articles on 1-stearoylglycerol and 2-stearoylglycerol, the former acknowledging that it is chiral (barely). My guess is that many such glycerol esters are known. --Smokefoot (talk) 18:19, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

My first thought would be to put discussion of all of them into one article, unless they have significantly different uses and/or properties (I wouldn't expect that to be the case). In my opinion, keeping related content together is generally best, until the length becomes too much for one article. -- Ed (Edgar181) 18:24, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Thanks!

Continuing disruption

IP 112.210.19.136, whom you blocked some days ago, came back from the block making edits that superficially look fine, but in reality are disruptive. In this edit, they add seemingly relevant, but completely unsourced and by nearer look false info. They continue to editwar at List of enclaves and exclaves, and after my message here, their next edit does not relate to this, but instead they introduce an obvious falsity with this edit. My impression is WP:NOTHERE, and if they really are a sock of earlier blocked accounts, maybe a longer block is necessary. Regards! --T*U (talk) 21:29, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

I have blocked the IP for two weeks now. Based on brief look, I think this user will return with different IPs before too long, so please just let me know if you see the problem continue. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 21:36, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names

Hi, I wanted to apologise for my tone over at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names - When editors at AIV put "discussing" I've always take that as "The person who added that template is the person discussing it with them" so when I saw that you had posted the template but no discussion from your was taking place I was a little annoyed hence my ping but anyway I wanted to apologise for the rude tone there, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 23:00, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

@Davey2010: No need to apologize. I didn't take your comment as rude at all. Thank you for all that you do to protect Wikipedia at UAA and elsewhere. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:08, 5 January 2018 (UTC)

Marth (Fire Emblem)

I have noticed that the page got deleted earlier on in the day - I understand the 'patient nonsense' bit but it might have been a possible mistake deleting the page, later restoring it with the revision restoring. Iggy (talk) 18:54, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

At the moment, as far as I can tell, the article history is in exactly the same state that it would have been in if I hadn't deleted/undeleted it. Some revisions previously had Revision deletion applied to them, but those should be unaffected and still hidden from viewing. If I'm missing something here, please let me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 21:10, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
All I can say would be that the page is certainly not incomprehensive or meaningless. I don't know how this page was tagged with the speedy deletion tag a few hours before either. Iggy (talk) 21:21, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

Indomethacin

Hi, Edgar181! Thanks for fixing my gaffe with the INN vs USAN on indomethacin. Right after I typed it, I realized the spelling was consistent in the article then looked it up on ChemID and sure enough, I was wrong. And then a squirrel ran by with a shiny thing and . . . -Kenetha65 Kenetha65 (talk) 13:18, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

No problem. I'm sure that "indometacin" and "indomethacin" are used inconsistently throughout Wikipedia articles, but we should aim for consistency when we can. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:28, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

Commons request

Could you take a look at this deletion request on Commons? It's been open for over a month, and I believe the discussion has ran its course. FYI I found you by searched through WP Commons' list of admins, looking for someone's name I recognize and that's recently active.   ~ Tom.Reding (talkdgaf)  16:46, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

I've read the discussion, but I'm sorry I don't really know enough about the copyright issues involved with an image such as this to be confident in a decision. Perhaps leaving a request at w:Commons:Commons:Administrators' noticeboard would draw the attention of someone more knowledgable that could close it. -- Ed (Edgar181) 20:29, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

Squalamine

The information you listed for squalamine contains numerous factual errors with respect to mechanism. For one, the compound acts by an electrostatic mechanism. The reference inserted is an old, outdated study. Your post is a business discussion. I think it is more relevant. It is a bile alcohol-polyamine conjugate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RPipiens (talkcontribs) 15:31, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

Dronabinol

Can we split this, its appears to be independently notable from THC. Valoem talk contrib 22:20, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

I think two articles would be reasonable. There is precedence for this kind of split of one topic into separate articles about different uses (lithium/lithium (medication)), testosterone/testosterone (medication), etc.) I recommend making the suggestion at WT:MED and/or WT:PHARM. -- Ed (Edgar181) 22:27, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
I'm just going to split it and hopefully you can review and add anything missing. Valoem talk contrib 22:33, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
I'll be happy to take a look at both articles when you're done. -- Ed (Edgar181) 22:34, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
Done, please let me know if I screwed anything up, also I am not sure of the categories to add and not sure if Dronabinol has the same chemical make up as THC. I'm not sure what else I can remove from THC to move to Dronabinol and vice versa. Valoem talk contrib 22:43, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
At first glance, everything looks fine to me. I'll take a more thorough look soon. -- Ed (Edgar181) 18:34, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

Cloflucarban

@Diannaa: too: A nice bit of collaborative editing, replacing a long-standing incorrect redirect! PamD 11:51, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

Ah, Edgar, I see you've moved it: what's the definitive source for names (apart from full chemical names)? I'm not a chemist, just came across this while Stub-sorting so used the name given in the one source. And made redirects from the other names. PamD 11:54, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
Both WP:MED and WP:PHARM prefer to title articles on pharmaceutical compounds using the International Nonproprietary Name. In most cases that generic name is the same as the one used in local jurisdictions (British Approved Name, United States Adopted Name, Japanese Accepted Name, etc.) but in this case they differ. The definitive source for the INN for any particular chemical compound would be the World Health Organization (such as http://www.who.int/medicines/services/inn/en/ ). -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:01, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

G13

Hi and thank your for your work on the deletion backlogs. I just wanted to let you know that when you come across a draft tagged for G13, it's not safe to assume that someone has already seen it. Most drafts don't get examined between the time they're declined and the time an admin follows up on the G13 tag (the tagging itself is done by a bot). There is a strong expectation (if not any formal obligation) that the admin will review the draft and postpone its deletion if it has potential. – Uanfala (talk) 02:31, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

Yes, I look at expired drafts and I mark the promising ones with ((promising draft)). -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:54, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

4-Chloroisobutyrylfentanyl

Hi Edgar. I don't suppose you could check if there is a CAS number for this obscure compound 4-Chloroisobutyrylfentanyl? It just got added to the Schedule 1 list in the USA the other day so presumably it must have appeared somewhere, but I can find very little in the literature about it. One article from 1999 where they got some analytical data, then a mention from the EMCDDA in 2017 that it showed up in the tox screen from an overdose victim alongside various other drugs, but nothing else. Almost wonder if they added this one to the ban list by mistake and really meant the p-fluoro analogue, which there is a great deal of literature about (and seems to have escaped being banned for now!) Meodipt (talk) 11:23, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

I'd be happy to look for the CAS number, but it will have to wait until Monday. I wouldn't expect it to be a mistake that 4-chloroisobutyrylfentanyl got scheduled. I just think the process of scheduling is somewhat arbitrary and capricious (as with many things in politics). -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:56, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. Yes I suppose it is more likely they just asked the DEA to supply a list of all the novel fentanyls their labs have identified over the last few months and these are just the seven compounds they happen to have seen. Sure they won't be the last of these to show up at any rate. Meodipt (talk) 18:17, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
Also this one too if you don't mind, cyclopropylfentanyl. Of course, I had missed that the 4-Fluoroisobutyrylfentanyl was already banned, which makes it much less surprising the chloro compound came up as well. Meodipt (talk) 11:04, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
Actually these just keep coming if you look at what has been showing up in Scandinavia like benzoylfentanyl and tetramethylcyclopropylfentanyl - that last one looks like a lab that was making UR-144 had some spare reagents and just thought they would try it out! Meodipt (talk) 12:02, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
You're right. Tetramethylcyclopropylfentanyl is funny. It's a mix-and-match of two different compounds with different pharmacology. Maybe some Chinese chemist in a clandestine lab probably just grabbed the wrong reagent bottle. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:39, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
Both have CAS numbers and I've added them to the two articles. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:39, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

G13 question

What is the basis for your edit summary here (mandatory MfD for abandoned drafts with a tag)? VQuakr (talk) 16:03, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

My edit summary did not say "mandatory". An editor requested that the page go through MFD, instead of being tagged with G13. My edit summary means I think you should honor that request and use MFD instead of G13. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:16, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
I apologize for the "mandatory"; I was not trying to misrepresent you. What I was hoping to find out was whether, to your knowledge, the community had already discussed if a template like this should indefinitely override G13. VQuakr (talk) 22:31, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
I did a bit of digging and didn't see any particularly applicable discussion; your participation would be welcome at Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion#Template:Promising draft. VQuakr (talk) 23:09, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

Tyrannical deletion

Edgar..re Philo. of sc. and Islam...Somebody called MAD put it for discussion....No one discussed it..10 minutes later same MAD put it for deletion...You came after one hour and you deleted it....Are you one and the same administrator? ..or you guys done it on the phone or emailed each other...This is outrageous...You should have waited for a proper discussion.....Mind you this page has never been created and deleted before as you wrongly claimed...You are administrators not owners of WP--Haywi (talk) 21:45, 23 February 2018 (UTC)

There is no justification for imagining some kind of behind-the-scenes conspiracy here. An article you created, Sciences in the Qur'an, was deleted as a result of the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sciences in the Qur'an. You later created the article titled Philosophy of Science and Islam that contained substantial portions which were identical to the first article. It is clear that this was an attempt to reintroduce into Wikipedia the same content that was deleted as result of the first AFD. Accordingly, the second article fell under speedy deletion criteria WP:CSD#G4. -- Ed (Edgar181) 21:57, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
Point taken, and I am aware of that. But you should have read all the constructive discussion which I have dearly appreciated at the time, about " Sciences in the Quran" before it was rejected...Secondly, regarding the new article you appear that you didn't read carefully to realize that it is different and evaluate it on its merits not its apparent resemblance to the previous book-size article(about 200 pages)..which I admit it was a mistake to put it on WP--Haywi (talk) 09:09, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

hi

in regards to this Antibiotics would [1](this as ref [2]satisfy the section)?--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 19:41, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

I think the section simply needs a rewrite. I have put it on my to-do list (which is long, so if you want to do it, that's fine with me). The state of antibiotic research has changed quite a bit since that section was written - the number of new antibiotics approved for use is no longer declining and has been increasing for several years now. Some items in the list of drugs in clinical trials are either approved now, or have been dropped from development. Many others that are not listed have recently entered clinical trials. I would definitely include teixobactin and malacidin as examples of recent early stage pre-clinical research. -- Ed (Edgar181) 19:49, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

User:NulledLeak

Hi, Edgar (also pinging @NeilN:)

It looks like you two have both had sone sort of interaction with this user before. Ever since NeilN warned them not to place block templates on other user/IP talk pages, they've continued to be disruptive, including creating their own RfA (since deleted by another admin). With that being said, there is obviously a very alarming WP:CIR issue with this user and I don't think that they're going to be productive here at all. Also, they've been blocked on another wikimedia site for disruption as well. Would one of you please consider blocking this user per WP:NOTHERE. Thank you. 172.58.41.190 (talk) 15:54, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

I can't tell if this individual is a clueless newbie (with good intentions, but with WP:CIR issues) or if they are simply trolling. They aren't entirely disruptive, having managed to appropriately welcome some new users. Maybe a bit more WP:ROPE, until it is clear which? -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:59, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
Nevermind, I see that NeilN has just blocked NulledLeak which I have no objection to. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:00, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Done, for disruptive editing. Ed, I've left a custom message that should help clarify the situation but I will unblock if you think that's a better course of action. I have concerns about the welcomes as newbies should not be asking this editor for help. --NeilN talk to me 16:03, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
@NeilN: I like the approach you have taken. No need to even consider unblocking until they respond to your message. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:06, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for taking on the close. Could you expand on "In terms of the weight of arguments, I think there is a preponderance in favor of keeping the article". You're saying the weight as in strength of arguments was on the side of keeping, or just numeric majority? I got involved with this AfD (and, clearly, stayed involved) because it seemed like (and still does) an example of how flooding an AfD with a high number of poor keep arguments can be successful in retaining the article (by no consensus if not by a formal keep outcome). This is obviously a characterization others will disagree with, of course. Regardless, it seems like DRV is a possibility no matter which way the close went. :) — Rhododendrites talk \\ 15:02, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

Yeah, I realized that plenty of people would be unsatisfied by the outcome and I won't be surprised if it ends up at DRV. To answer your question, I intend "weight" to mean that I included both strength and numbers in my evaluation of the discussion. -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:30, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – March 2018

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2018).

Administrator changes

added Lourdes
removed AngelOfSadnessBhadaniChris 73CorenFridayMidomMike V
† Lourdes has requested that her admin rights be temporarily removed, pending her return from travel.

Guideline and policy news

  • The autoconfirmed article creation trial (ACTRIAL) is scheduled to end on 14 March 2018. The results of the research collected can be read on Meta Wiki.
  • Community ban discussions must now stay open for at least 24 hours prior to being closed.
  • A change to the administrator inactivity policy has been proposed. Under the proposal, if an administrator has not used their admin tools for a period of five years and is subsequently desysopped for inactivity, the administrator would have to file a new RfA in order to regain the tools.
  • A change to the banning policy has been proposed which would specify conditions under which a repeat sockmaster may be considered de facto banned, reducing the need to start a community ban discussion for these users.

Technical news

  • CheckUsers are now able to view private data such as IP addresses from the edit filter log, e.g. when the filter prevents a user from creating an account. Previously, this information was unavailable to CheckUsers because access to it could not be logged.
  • The edit filter has a new feature contains_all that edit filter managers may use to check if one or more strings are all contained in another given string.

Miscellaneous

Obituaries

  • Bhadani (Gangadhar Bhadani) passed away on 8 February 2018. Bhadani joined Wikipedia in March 2005 and became an administrator in September 2005. While he was active, Bhadani was regarded as one of the most prolific Wikipedians from India.

Eogonatus tinro

I have now created the page Gonatopsis okutanii which was my intention when I created the two redirects yesterday, I got that the wrong way round! Is it okay for me to recreate the two redirects for Eogonatus and Eogonatus tinro. Thanks. Quetzal1964 (talk) 07:49, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

Yes, please go ahead. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:25, 5 March 2018 (UTC)
Thank you.Quetzal1964 (talk) 18:48, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

Thanks and request

Thank you for your continued help with articles I have been uploading. If you get a chance please look at dithiole. It is a disambiguation or an index or something in Wikispeak, and no doubt it would benefit from a look. Cheers, --Smokefoot (talk) 02:24, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

I've added ((chemistry index)), which seems to fit best. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:24, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

Older deletion

I have been making periodic edits throughout the past couple of years, only to discover that my page was deleted by Edgar181 in 2010 (temporary deletion). I am not sure why I was deleted, but when I tried to "resuscitate" my page, wikipedia told me I had to converse with the user who deleted me. I want to know 1) why was I deleted in April of 2010, and more importantly 2) how do I reactivate my user page. Peter Diaz (talk) 02:33, 7 March 2018 (UTC)Laxking77 (talkcontribs) 02:23, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

Upon further review of my contributions, I am guessing that I was deleted for facetious edits that my sibling made using my account. My current edits are entirely serious, and I wish my page to be reactivated. Peter Diaz (talk) 02:33, 7 March 2018 (UTC)laxking77

Ok, I have restored the page User:Laxking77. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:28, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

Recently Deleted Pages

Hi Ed, Can you userfy the following recently-deleted pages to my userspace for further editing and revision? -Christopher_Altman -Assocation_of_Spaceflight_Professionals -Tau_Zero_Foundation

Thanks in Advance!! Mygraymatter (talk) 07:44, 10 March 2018 (UTC)

OK. The pages are now located at User:Mygraymatter/Christopher Altman, User:Mygraymatter/Association of Spaceflight Professionals, and User:Mygraymatter/Tau Zero Foundation. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:55, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
I'm not sure that this was such a good idea given Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard#Altman_sockfarm and Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Altman/Archive. SmartSE (talk) 13:26, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
Ugh. I wasn't aware of the socking. For now I'll move them back, redelete, and file an SPI report. Thanks for letting me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:38, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
No worries. Personally, given how far from notable the subjects are, I'm not sure they should be restored at all, but that's your call. SmartSE (talk) 14:54, 10 March 2018 (UTC)

Apologies for the delay in my reply. I've been away and just returned. This is a new account: my previous account had to be shutdown due to targeted hacking from an anti-science stalker several years back. I've only just now gotten around to reopening an account. My request to restore these articles, which I found were deleted after reading about them in the news, then conducting a search on the topic, seemed to be a first order of business.

I believe the subjects are notable in context of the quickly-evolving commercial spaceflight industry, and have found several independent secondary references to that effect. More are sure to come over coming months, hence my request to userify the articles for further editing, revision and possible later restoration. Mygraymatter (talk) 21:48, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

Question

Edgar Chemical exposure to Bhc powder, prolonged 10 hrs a day 7 days a week for 8 months as a 16 year old male. Numerous health issues later in life. Any help understanding issues? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.77.222.173 (talk) 15:38, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

What do you mean by "Bhc powder"? -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:56, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

Novichok

Hi Edgar. Just wondering if the Novichok agent page might need protecting temporarily? Since the UK government confirmed that one of these compounds was used in that recent poisoning incident there is suddenly a lot of activity on this page with unconfirmed provisional facts or speculation being added or removed, IP editors changing it to suggest MI6 as the likely culprit, etc...just wondered if it might be best to restrict it to established editors until some more solidly verified facts are available and the media fuss dies down a bit. Up to you though really. Meodipt (talk) 00:31, 13 March 2018 (UTC)

I think for now it's ok - anonymous editing isn't too problematic. I have it on my watchlist and will definitely protect it if it becomes a problem. Thanks for the heads up. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:32, 13 March 2018 (UTC)
Looks like someone else has protected it already...Meodipt (talk) 22:18, 13 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi! I don't know how much you mess around with JSmol but the 3D image for this molecule linked in the infobox, is like Flat Stanley. Does that look wrong to you? Jytdog (talk) 09:00, 18 March 2018 (UTC)

@Jytdog: Yeah, that structure is nonsense. I'll see what I can figure out. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:45, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
@Jytdog:I thought it was due to the SMILES data missing stereochemical information, so I updated the drugbox data. However, that didn't solve the problem. I have started a discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Pharmacology#3D_model_(JSmol). -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:43, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

Reversions

Please stop reverting the edits where I deleted dead links. Contrary to your unsupported, bald statement that this should not be done, it is an actually an explicit request of Wikipedia's editors that this IS one of many cleaning-up tasks which is performed: Viz:Wikipedia:Contribution Team/Backlogs. When, as in the majority of cases, a fix has already been attempted, it is a particularly fatuous waste of everyone's time to put back references that no longer exist. So please revert the edits you have just made. Thank you. Rcb1 (talk) 13:15, 29 March 2018 (UTC)reb1

It is not correct to say that it is a waste of time to put back references that don't exist. It took me only a few seconds to fix the reference that you deleted from 1,1-Difluoroethane. Where is there consensus at Wikipedia:Contribution Team/Backlogs or anywhere else to blindly delete all broken links? -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:23, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

Vandalism

Hello! I noticed you've previously blocked User:167.102.157.147 for vandalism, but they have repeatedly made unconstructive edits after being unblocked and appear to be a vandalism-only account. Would you consider an indef block? Thank you. Nanophosis (talk) 15:52, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

IP addresses are generally not indefinitely blocked because they can be reassigned to other individuals/organizations. Instead, blocks of escalating length are used. I have now blocked this IP for 1 month. If the problem continues after that, it can be blocked for longer. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:05, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
Thank you very much, I wasn't aware that IP addresses aren't indefed. As you can imagine, I'm learning all of this as I go :) Nanophosis (talk) 03:34, 30 March 2018 (UTC)

Bot trial for AIV archiving

Just FYI, there's currently an ongoing bot trial for removing stale (>6 hours) AIV requests, so there shouldn't be any need to manually remove requests for the time being. Runs every 30 minutes. ~ Amory (utc) 13:02, 31 March 2018 (UTC)

That's great. I knew it was in the works, but didn't know it was running. Thanks for letting me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:10, 31 March 2018 (UTC)

Please Help

I am officially asking for help from the wikipedia community. An Editor (who has twice flagged my home page as an attack page, so I will not name him here. Seems to be camping my edits (even on TALK PAGES for God's sake!!!) and reverting or criticizing them with very little to go on, other than (apparently) a distate of me garnered from a mistake I made years ago trying to delete a wikipedia category. He also holds cleear and apparently inviolable personal opinions on metallurgy and related matters. For the past year or more I have actually stayed clear of him and his "favorite, personally owned" feifdom pages and subjects. Recently he has decided to just offer snide remarks:

[like this one]

I have attempted to make personal contact through his home page, and he mostly just deletes it. He's even reverted changes I've put in my own home page because he considered them "attacks"! I would like it if someone in authority could please get him to back off. Any help out there?

I am completely willing to plead my case, and I'm open to any arbitration I can get. Let me know what to do - I'll do it!

Riventree (talk) 17:13, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

I'm sorry to hear about this. Unfortunately, Wikipedia simply isn't very good at handling situations like this. Venues such as WP:ANI can sometimes be helpful at resolving these types of issues. I would encourage you to start there if you wish to pursue this. You can also try Wikipedia:Dispute resolution (but I don't have enough experience with that process to judge how effective that might be.) Good luck. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:37, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
Thank you kindly Ed.

Administrators' newsletter – April 2018

News and updates for administrators from the past month (March 2018).

Administrator changes

added 331dotCordless LarryClueBot NG
removed Gogo DodoPb30SebastiankesselSeicerSoLando

Guideline and policy news

  • Administrators who have been desysopped due to inactivity are now required to have performed at least one (logged) administrative action in the past 5 years in order to qualify for a resysop without going through a new RfA.
  • Editors who have been found to have engaged in sockpuppetry on at least two occasions after an initial indefinite block, for whatever reason, are now automatically considered banned by the community without the need to start a ban discussion.
  • The notability guideline for organizations and companies has been substantially rewritten following the closure of this request for comment. Among the changes, the guideline more clearly defines the sourcing requirements needed for organizations and companies to be considered notable.
  • The six-month autoconfirmed article creation trial (ACTRIAL) ended on 14 March 2018. The post-trial research report has been published. A request for comment is now underway to determine whether the restrictions from ACTRIAL should be implemented permanently.

Technical news

Arbitration

  • The Arbitration Committee is considering a change to the discretionary sanctions procedures which would require an editor to appeal a sanction to the community at WP:AE or WP:AN prior to appealing directly to the Arbitration Committee at WP:ARCA.

Miscellaneous

  • A discussion has closed which concluded that administrators are not required to enable email, though many editors suggested doing so as a matter of best practice.
  • The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team has released the Interaction Timeline. This shows a chronologic history for two users on pages where they have both made edits, which may be helpful in identifying sockpuppetry and investigating editing disputes.

Solver

Hello Edgar,

Can you give me access to the following recently-deleted pages to my userspace for further editing and revision? Thank you so much! User Name: Hannak91 Article Title: Solver, Inc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hannak91 (talkcontribs) 16:47, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

@Hannak91: I have moved the article to Draft:Solver, Inc. where you can work on it. It is not acceptable as an article in its current state. It is promotional in nature, needs reliable sources independent of the subject, and lacks evidence that the company meets Wikipedia notability criteria for inclusion (see WP:CORP). You should also have a look at Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines which may apply here. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 23:57, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

Thank you so much, Edgar! Will review and take a look at the guidelines. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hannak91 (talkcontribs) 16:55, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Communists for Kerry & Draft:Communists for Kerry

I just came across Communists for Kerry and noticed that Nick included in the page move rationale that (if the draft was to be deleted under G13 to) "please return to article space then re-delete so history is in correct location". I noticed that the draft (Draft:Communists for Kerry) was deleted by you at 14:15, 22 November 2017, but was not moved back beforehand. I figured that you probably didn't see that, so just wanted to bring it to your attention. --All the best, TheSandDoctor Talk 19:28, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

I can't see that it matters, but the deleted edits are now relocated. -- Ed (Edgar181) 20:00, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
