Primary elections took place on May 7, 2024.[1] Incumbent one-term Republican Senator Mike Braun has declined to run for a second term in office, opting instead to run for governor .[2] This will be the first general election for this seat in which there is no incumbent running since 1958 .[a]
Gotsch, Nathan [@FWPolitics] (May 8, 2024). "Big upset in the Democratic primary to take on Jim Banks in November: Valerie McCray has DEFEATED Marc Carmichael to become the Democratic nominee for US Senate. McCray is unlikely to win but her presence on the ticket could boost Democratic turnout in the general election and help other D candidates down ballot in other races" (Tweet ).
