I am requesting this right as I import templates that have a lot of other templates that need to come over with it (i.e. Template:Infobox element/symbol-to-saw/overview-compare-wikidata. Having this right will allow me to do this a lot faster, as doing each one with a copy and paste is very tedious for large amounts that need to be brought over. I have read and understand w:Help:Import and I fully understand the risks if used incorrectly. For smaller ones, I will continue to use the copy/paste I have been doing. I am not using this to import non-trivial templates with only a few links to them. Please feel free to ask questions and I ask that the recent unblock/unlock not affect this request. I have also not sockpuppeted. Oppose per my comments on Wikipedia:Requests for trans-wiki importer/PotsdamLamb, particularly [The trans-wiki importer right] was not created to be given out indefinitely.

You specifically told me I have to make the request here and get consensus and then when needed (if consensus is a yes) then inform an admin when I need it and when I’m done with it. This was the conversation you and I had. I’m not sure why you are saying this now considering you told me I had to open this and it runs like any other major RfP. That is also why I stated that I would continue to copy/paste smaller ones. I am sorry if that was not clear. I know it’s not an indefinite right but I need approval before I’m allowed to use it, which is what I am seeking here. If you have any questions, please let me know. I will also state you mentioned that in the last request from mid 2022 that it is not indefinite and only when needed. I read through that entire block before I opened this request for permissions. - Oppose I am opposing for a mix of Ferien's reasoning and very specifically because I don't trust PotsdamLamb with the tool. They have consistantly throughout the years I have seen them edit here not actually understand the technical aspects of the wiki, especially around templates. As a matter of fact I had to fix one of their copy/paste imports just this morning. - @Djsasso You re-imported the exact same thing I copied over. I do not know why you felt you needed to do that but you have done that a few times and they show no change. Yes, while it is true we have do not use short descriptions, a lot of editors copy it over from the en-wiki article (or other wiki). I asked the other day on-wiki why it was showing as an error on same pages and no one answered and now I know why. For the large amount of templates/docs I’ve brought over very few have had to be touched. You mention the same reason as Ferien, that was already countered above as him and I had an IRC conversation about it. I do understand the technical aspects of templates and I have actually fixed quite a few of them for editors when they brought up something wasn’t working. I was able to track down the issue and fix it. While I’m not a template designer, I know how to troubleshoot them. Instead of calling me out and trying to make it bigger than what it is, it could be used as a teaching moment where you could have said something on my tp and let me know “hey on this module…” instead of saying you absolutely don’t trust me and would make a mess of this. - The importing over top was to give attribution. It was a copyright violation as it stood. That isn't actually the issue I was referring to, I was referring to the short description you added in the template and then proceeded to create the subpage for the short description, when I am pretty sure you know we don't use them here. Missing the short description in the template is one thing and easy enough to miss (you added it as part of your copy paste), but then going and manually creating the subpage for the short description is a whole different thing. -Djsasso (talk) 13:56, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Djsasso I actually and honestly was not aware of the no short descriptions as a lot of articles get brought over and they leave that on it. One of the things previously brought up by an admin is to ensure I bring over the documentation as well. So yes it comes over as well, if there is one. - @Lee Vilenski Basically some templates on en wiki are now auto-generating the short descriptions, that is what Djsasso removed. Others are from editors just copy paste from en wiki and not removing it. Now that I’m aware when I come across them I remove them.
