Japanese junior colleges

[change source]

Auntof6 has nominated the following pages for deletion for the reason: I am nominating all 131 articles that are currently in Category:Junior colleges in Japan because none of them claims notability. (Yes, I looked at every one of them.) The closest they come to claiming notability is:

  1. A few of them list notable alumni (but I don't think having someone notable attend the college makes the college notable)
  2. Having references (however, the references don't support anything that indicates notability)

Pages included in this request:

In addition to the notability issue, there have many other problems with these articles. They have all needed extensive cleanup. The user (User:61.116.92.160) who created many of the early articles never replied to messages left on the talk page and never addressed the issues. User:Chenzw even left messages there in multiple languages, but got no reply (at least not on the talk page). The creation of these articles had stopped for a while, but now they are being created again, causing a lot of cleanup work for new page patrollers.

Please discuss this request below, but keep in mind that you shouldn't vote on everything and that there may be options other than "keep" or "delete", such as merging.

Many of these would actually pass notability requirements quite easily, but I just don't see the point in devoting time and energy to adding the required references for articles that are of such poor quality. A few should be kept, and if the number is small, they can be improved as models for others.
Please keep these as still active independent junior colleges. If they are kept, I'll find the refs.

The main issue that is never explained well in any of these articles is that these junior colleges all restructured as regular 4 year institutions or merged with associated universities (those are the ones that end in -bu) and as Macdonald-ross pointed out are now schools of existing universities.
Examples like these should redirect to a main article and become part of the history of the article. Some of these are noted historically or are competitive to enter.

Music schools and Christian colleges and universities and showing notability: Yes, any articles can be deleted if they don't indicate notability. Showing notability is a basic requirement of Wikipedia articles. Just knowing or believing that the subject of an article is notable is not enough. If an article is deleted for not showing notability, it can be rewritten later when there is evidence. We can only go by what is in the article. Unfortunately, we don't have the resources to keep up with making sure all our articles have what they should. When attention is drawn to especially problematic ones like these (for their grammatical and formatting issues, among other things), we are more likely to notice that they also don't show notability.
The two specific entries you mention that you would like kept: I would oppose keeping any of these articles if indication of notability is not added. If this RfD passes and there are any that you would like to see kept, they could be moved to your userspace. Even if they get deleted before you have a chance to say you want them, they can be retrieved if we act soon enough.
If a college is historic, let that be noted in the article. As for being competitive to enter, that does not indicate notability. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:11, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
