I am nominating this editor because they are very active (which we need), are very familiar with the rules of Wikipedia (they have admin rights on other projects), they are stable and level headed, and I have never seen any issues with their edits. They are great at reverting vandalism and make sure to post on user talk pages to help guide new editors to the correct way to do things. I do not see any reason as to why they should not get the mop. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 07:07, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Co-nomination from Ferien: Hi everyone, I'm here to co-nominate MathXplore for adminship on this wiki. MathXplore has done a lot of work on this wiki, in many different areas, working here since March 2020. A lot of their work involves new page patrol, in which they are probably one of the most active patrollers here. They have nominated over 1400 articles for quick deletion in this patrol in 2024 so far alone, with little to none declined, not only showing high activity but also very good understanding of deletion policy. Their new page patrol work alone already shows a clear need for adminship and understanding of policy, and they are also very active at VIP, with gnomish work, like with categories, and other areas, in which MathXplore would benefit from admin tools too. Combine that with a friendly attitude and not shying away from criticism, and for me, I have no doubt MathXplore would make a brilliant administrator. I hope the community agrees, and wish MathXplore the best of luck in this RfA! --Ferien (talk) 21:10, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Candidate's acceptance:
I would like to use this subsection for statements before RFA acceptance. MathXplore (talk) 02:39, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear community, as introduced by Ferien and PDL, I'm an editor since 2020. I was allowed to join the rollbacker user group in January 2022 per local anti-vandalism efforts (special:redirect/logid/2122903). I also used to be in the patroller user group, but since I didn't understand the patrol feature in Wikimedia projects (in technical meanings) I was removed from the user group. I have re-negotiated about previous cases and agreed with the involved admins to move forward RFA, please see special:permalink/9491679#Transitions_between_RFRR_and_RFP for this discussion. Today, I have restored auto-patrol via global rollback, and I have local patroller permissions at Commons, English Wikibooks (as reviewer), English Wikiversity (as custodian since March 2024), Simple English Wiktionary (as sysop since January 2024), Japanese Wiktionary, etc., but hitting the patrol button or collecting such buttons are not the main part of my activities. Actually, I check users and edits rather than specific pages, so "patroller" is not absolutely needed for me. If I just wanted to restore patroller permissions I would just go back to the same RFP venue, but we have this RFA for different objectives beyond "patroller" (I mean things that cannot be done by "patroller"). I will give a full description of such objectives in the following "plans" section. MathXplore (talk) 02:31, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As mentioned in Special:Diff/9479316, the works of our admins include WP:VIP, WP:RFD, CAT:QD and WP:AN in the main part. I plan to prioritize WP:VIP, CAT:QD and WP:AN, etc., because these can be emergencies while RFDs are not (in general, emergencies in RFDs may need QD or WP:OS when applicable). However, I don't think this is enough, and I would like to provide further description. MathXplore (talk) 02:38, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Since m:Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Simple English Wikipedia (3), it is believed that spam and vandalism are handled in a reasonable way. I generally agree to this statement, but I believe that I might be able to provide further assistance in some complicated cases, such as non-English cases.
It is needless to remind that we are a simple English project. However, we have editors from all over the world, including those we cannot accept. We also get derogatory content from various languages, including those that I can understand. You can see special:permalink/9483065#About_your_recent_VIP_reports_(special:diff/9431290) and Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Archive21#JA/ZH-originated_fake_doppelganger_accounts for one of my recent alerts about such cases. For the most recent violent incidents, I assume the involvement of ja:LTA:GNSN or ja:LTA:LMG, etc. Previously, we had more editors with proficiency higher than ja/zh-3, so it was easier to detect such issues, but today I do not recognize enough substitutes in this area. I believe that language barriers and time zone differences may have delayed the community's response.
The full record of my activities in this area can be found from my VIP log, AN report log, and SRG log for LTAs or gloabl username issues. Some cases involve deleted revisions, you can send questions to our admins about such cases. By joining the admin team I look forward to expanding the linguistic and time zone coverage of our anti-derogatory/vandalism efforts. Please note that m:stewards may be able to handle global username issues when applicable, but other issues (such as edit summaries, revisions, etc.) must be handled by our local admins.
m:Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Simple English Wikipedia (3) says that our community is handling spam and vandalism in a reasonable way. However, I believe it is still hard to detect and revert non-English spams, and I believe that is why smaller projects like us are being targeted.
Again, we are a simple English project, but we get weblinks from all over the world, including those we cannot accept. We also get spams from various languages, including those that I can understand. You can see User talk:Justarandomamerican/Archives/2023/April and special:diff/9454809 (both are w:ja:LTA:GRIMM cases) for my efforts in this area. In general, they look like adding references, but they are just adding their favorite blogs, etc. Cross-wiki cases or LTAs can be handled by stewards, but otherwise they have to be handled locally. By joining the admin team I look forward to expanding the linguistic coverage of our anti-spam efforts.
The full record of my anti-spam/vandalism activites our included in my rollback log, undo log, ENWV logs (delete, protect, blocks) and more samples can be seen at m:User:MathXplore#Reverts_at_EN_and_multilingual_projects (please note that I have global rollback, I can use rollback outside this project). Some of these cases may overlap with above, but not all of them can be easily declared as spam or vandalism. Please see Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Current_issues_and_requests_archive_63#Request_for_Protection_of_User_talk:RadiX, Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Current_issues_and_requests_archive_66#Request_for_Protection_for_User_talk:郊外生活, Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Current_issues_and_requests_archive_74#ja:LTA:HEATHROW_targeting_User_talk:郊外生活_again, and Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Archive20#ja:LTA:HEATHROW for such cases. As well as above, I hope I can expand the linguistic coverage of our anti-LTA actions. MathXplore (talk) 06:27, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We are one of the 2 simple English projects, and I believe that collaborations with the other side can help the entire simple English movement. Since I started helping Simple English Wiktionary as their admin since January 2024, I have been working in this area. Please see wikt:special:permalink/520832#Please_wait_deletion_of_Hilary_of_Poitiers, wikt:special:permalink/520832#Please_wait_for_domino_theory, and wikt:special:permalink/520832#w:Wikipedia:Requests_for_deletion/Requests/2024/Oops for examples. As Simple English Wiktionary admin I can import simplewiki dicdefs. Having advanced permissions here can allow me to work on the opposite side, and I don't have to do things like User_talk:Auntof6/Archives/2024#Wikipedia:Requests_for_deletion/Requests/2024/Oops. MathXplore (talk) 06:27, 19 April 2024 (UTC) (Added signature, I noticed that I forgot to add my signature here when added this with the subsections above, MathXplore (talk) 03:36, 22 April 2024 (UTC))[reply]
Yeah, we should act more like a sorta single project really. Before Global Sysops simplewiki admins could just ask to be a Wiktionary admin automatically. fr33kman 03:31, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Question: Do you believe that your adminship on the Simple English Wiktionary or the English Wikiverisity might distract you a little from here/adminship here may distract you from them a little?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Simpleist (talk • contribs)
Question: How do you generally deal with disagreements or conflicts that emerge during editing? Have you ever dealt with it before? DIVINE 00:22, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
