Capsicum cayennense[1] est cultivarietas capsicorum speciei Capsico annuo attributum. Nomen autem neque ex urbe Guianae Francicae Caienna neque e flumine adiacenti trahitur.

Pulvis cayennae (e varietatibus "cayennensibus mercatorum" confectus) a saeculo XVII e regione Caribica in Europam exportatus est.
