Why the need to delete the Lex Wotton page ?

[edit]

When I had a look at the 2004 Palm Island death in custody page I didn't see many of the notable details about Lex Wotton being covered extensively. What I did see was his name mentioned three times and one link. Thats all. I think that the issue here is what and who some individuals regard as being notable. I think that it differs from person to person and there may be a slight possibilty that the judgment of certain individuals could be affected by certain beliefs and feelings held in regard to other things outside their zone of comfort. Just a thought here.

How can this be notable details of Lex Wotton having extensive coverage ? (Starman005 (talk) 09:17, 11 November 2008 (UTC))[reply]

My views about the events at Palm Island, (which you have no idea about whatsoever) are irrelevant in this discussion, nor does it help your cause to make insinuations of racism. The facts are that Lex Wootton is an otherwise non-notable person (like the vast majority of Australians) who is notable for one event only and therefore Wikipedia's policy on Biographies of living people applies - "Marginal biographies on people with no independent notability can give undue weight to the events in the context of the individual, create redundancy and additional maintenance overhead, and cause problems for our neutral point of view policy. In such cases, a redirect or merge are usually the better options. Cover the event, not the person" -- Mattinbgn\talk 09:54, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mattinbgn, were you the one who first nominated the Lex Wotton page for deletion? I believe that there were some questions given to you on the Lex Wotton talk page that required your answer. Did you forget? As far as insinuations of racism are concerned, there's no need to be on the defensive. There's a whole broad catagory to examine. I can say by my lifetime of observation that there are certain factors that can influence the actions of some people. There are other issues that don't come under the actual catagory of racism. A little self evaluation and soul searching may not go amiss.BTW: I think the view of Wotton being a non-notable person is something that is now under challenge. Perhaps this viewpoint is something that can be modified with a little enlightenment. (Starman005 (talk) 06:25, 20 November 2008 (UTC))[reply]

A request for the actual person responsible for the deletion of the Lex Wotton page to reply

[edit]

I would like to know the reasons / your reasons behind the deletion of this article. Thanks (Electromechanic (talk) 11:25, 18 November 2008 (UTC))[reply]

The page was redirected to 2004 Palm Island death in custody. So if someone types in Lex Wotton it brings them straight to the Palm island article. This action was taken by MBisanz BigDuncTalk 15:38, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am the person responsible for the deletion of this article. Exercising administrative authority under the deletion policy I interpreted community consensus as to the disposition of the article in question. Based on my interpretation, the community desired that people be able to type in the term to google or our search engine and be taken to the 2004 Palm Island death in custody article. This means that a separate article on Lex Wotton is considered inappropriate by the community for inclusion in the encyclopedia. My decision may be appealed at deletion review, however, I believe the consensus for redirection is quite firm. MBisanz talk 15:55, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
