Suspected sockpuppets

Please list evidence below this line. Remember to sign at the end of your section with 4 tilde characters "~~~~"

Both accounts created at a similar time (Zhangjiandong at Mar 03, 2011 23:19:12, Waikiki lwt at Apr 08, 2011 06:51:03); both accounts seem to be active at coincidentally the same time (refer to diff1, diff2; and diff1a, diff2a), especially in cases where tag-team edit warring appears to be taking place and when the limit to WP:3RR is near. Both share same sentiments regarding encyclopedia content, share similar attitudes (for example, confusion of the definition of the word "vandalism" (refer to this and this) and belief that an article cannot be edited by others until an AfD discussion finishes), and both may have similar writing styles (i.e. broken, non-native English and similar vocabulary). A large number of pages are edited by both users, and in most cases both users are in agreement with one another; both also appear in the same AfD discussions. Both users are also active on the same page on the German Wikipedia (Z, T).

Also of consideration is how both users suddenly become quiet (W, Z) immediately after when this SPI was first filed and both parties notified, especially since W has been quite active the few minutes before the case was filed.

There is the possibility that one user is a sockpuppet of the other; there is also the possibility that one user is a meatpuppet that the other user has off-wiki contact with, either on- or offline (instant messaging, etc), and can also be considered as sockpuppetry. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 14:03, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User:Waikiki lwt gave me a sockpuppet-y vibe from his first edits because of his savvy involvement in a controversial article group despite being a new account. Here are some stylistic trademarks that I noticed from Zhangjiandong's ventriloquist show:

Sorry, I am an unexperienced editor with just a few contributions and was not aware of the sockpuppet rules. I didn’t have any malicious intent. Of course I cooperate with the administrators dealing with this sockpuppet investigation to solve this case. Thank you all for helping me learning how Wikipedia works. Waikiki lwt (talk) 10:49, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"I didn’t have any malicious intent" - so, double-voting, bypassing 3RR in edit wars, creating an illusion of support in discussions, avoiding scrutiny and all WP:ILLEGIT actions were not your intention? I don't quite take the bait when you say you were unaware of WP:SOCK policy; given that you knew quite clearly of WP:3RR, WP:DEL and other policies, it's somewhat hard to believe when you say that you were unaware of WP:SOCK. Additionally, per Wikipedia's term of use, editors are expected to have read the basic principles and core guidelines of Wikipedia (this should have been in a Welcome message sent to you upon account creation); whether or not you actually read these is up to you. As an analogy, having over x amount of illicit drugs in Singapore is illegal and almost always results in the death penalty; if I were to rock over to Singapore with 500 grams of methamphetamine, I'd be thrown in jail and eventually sent to the gallows, even if I said "but I was unaware of the law". Being unaware of the rules doesn't really make a clear-cut excuse for breaking the rules unless you have a particularly convincing reason for it. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 12:00, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, I agree with that
  • First, it should be common sense that sockpuppets are not encouraged in almost any website with an account feature. It also seems awfully suspicious that Waikiki lwt/Zhangjiangdong agreeing with himself here [1] (in the edit summary) '...Weikiki is right' can be passed off as 'inexperienced' and 'without malicious intnet'. It ought to be common sense.
  • Second, as Benlisquare pointed out, Waikiki lwt seems to know about various Wikipedia-specific policies such as WP:3RR, and is able to create the article (able to use the ever so difficult Wiki software and create a format-wise good article) when most new editors often make mistakes on that, but unaware of the WP:SOCK rule, which is used not only in Wikipedia but many internet forums and such.
  • Therefore, I think that Waikiki lwt/Zhangjiandong is doing this on purpose, not as a result of inexperience as he claims. Zlqq2144(Talk Contribs) 04:04, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The following appear to be the same:

  • The practice of starting a talk page with a call to help from other editors just after creating a new article is common to Woesler and Waikiki lwt (Woesler, Waikiki). Quigley (talk) 22:53, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • According to SUL, both Indian scout and Woesler are more active on the German Wikipedia than on the English Wikipedia; along with Zhangjiandong and Waikiki lwt, all four have their significant share of contributions on the DE Wiki. Although unrelated to Zhangjiandong and Waikiki lwt, both Woesler and Indian scout are pretty much obvious socks of one another, given that they edit the same pages, meaning that if one is confirmed to be a sock of Zhangjiandong, it is also likely that both are. SUL also shows that all four accounts were created on EN Wiki at similar times. Both Indian scout and Woesler's edits seem to centre around the Panguso article, which appears to be a Chinese website; this does not actually confirm anything however, and I won't go into further speculations on that. -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 09:54, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • All four users (Wik, Zh, Woe, Ind) seem to show editing patterns from a similar timezone; editor habits resemble that of a Central European timezone (i.e., Germany), as it appears that all four users have daily offline activities within the timeframe from 14:00UTC to 19:00UTC and sleep within the timeframe from 0:00UTC to 5:00UTC, give or take a few hours for daily variation. These times deviate between higher nighttime editing activities during the weekends, and lesser editing activity in general over the weekdays (job/school/etc). -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 03:19, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
