Suspected sockpuppets

[edit]

User:Micericky was created within hours of Xannir (talk · contribs · logs) being blocked as a sockpuppet of Wiki2008time. Micericky began with the same flurry of minor copyedits that User:Xannir had before diving straight into RfD in the exact same way the beginning of Xannir's edit history does. Xannir voted speedy keep on a nomination, closed it as speedy keep, was blocked and then suddenly Micericky was created and also votes speedy keep. Micericky has also referenced being Canadian in their responses, something that both Wiki2008 and Xannir have done. EoRdE6(Come Talk to Me!) 16:12, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also a look at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Miss_BC shows a clear overlap between all three editors.
Furthermore, I have suspicions regarding Danimeers (talk · contribs · logs) for obvious reasons. EoRdE6(Come Talk to Me!) 16:41, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also pinging @Bradv: and @Nick: who seem to have been involved with the blocking of the last sock. EoRdE6(Come Talk to Me!) 16:44, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Micericky thanks for responding, it's entirely possible I made a mistake however I just found the situation to be highly unusual, brand new editors rarely dive headfirst into RfD and AfD in such a way, RfD in particular has next to no participation by unregistered users and so having a brand new account being that involved in RfDs that had recently been confirmed as having sockpuppets is understandably concerning. Your editing pattern also matched these other users, and your tendency to vote speedy keep and speedy delete at a point in the discussion when there is no longer a potential for a speedy keep or speedy delete is abnormal and matched exactly with Xannir. It's also notable that you voted the same as Xannir in almost every single RfD you overlapped in, perhaps that was just the right way to vote but it's certainly abnormal, especially coming in after Xannir and suggesting a speedy keep/delete. But you're entirely correct in saying I could be simply overeading into unlucky coincidences, they certainly do happen. EoRdE6(Come Talk to Me!) 03:50, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you, fair enough yes I suppose some aspects are unusual but as I said, I have taken some part of RfD/AfD several years in the past on and off before leaving for a couple years. As for my vote pattern matching, take a look at other people I voted consistently with, I'm sure there is probably lots of overlap. I tend to agree with the majority (probably because the majority is making the correct vote most of the time) and rarely feel strongly enough to vote against the majority unless I see something that most people may not have seen. I'm not really sure where this accusation came from as I don't recall seeing your name on any discussions or pages I've worked on, but I wouldn't be surprised if other people want to accuse me of sockpuppetry with any other accounts simply because I may vote in agreement with other people (usually I see that the same people tend to consistently make reasonable arguments). --Micky (talk) 04:11, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

First three: LCE and the IP very often edits Canadian pageantry-related articles (such as Miss Universe Canada), or adding Canadian content to worldwide pageantry articles. Seeing that Neelix was a big name in this niche area before his ban, it seems reasonable that the three suspects are linked to him, or at least to each other. The rest: For their more-than-normal entanglement in the Tara Teng and Human trafficking in Canada articles, respectively. Before Neelix left, he had quite the stake in the two pages. --NotReallySoroka (talk) (formerly DePlume) 23:34, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As someone who familiarised themselves with Neelix's edits a couple of years ago (around the time of the redirect issue), I can certainly see some similarities in the editing between his other socks and these. The duck is certainly quacking on LCE and the IP - but I think HMS will come up stale given it hasn't edited in over a year. Best, Patient Zerotalk 23:17, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Blablubbs: I have added 2 more accounts which I suspect to be Neelix's socks on a different reason. Please review. --NotReallySoroka (talk) (formerly DePlume) 23:38, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
