This page is used for listing requests for history merges or history splitting of pages. For relatively simple cases where history merge is required, the destination page should be tagged with the ((histmerge)) template. This page should be used for requesting very complex merges, merges involving more than two pages, history merges of deleted pages, or when the use of the template is otherwise inadequate or where its usage would cause problems.
This page was originally for listing cut-and-paste moves which could not be repaired due to a then-extant technical limitation. The limitation has since been removed, but this page is still available if you find a cut-and-paste move, and are not able to repair it yourself (there is a procedure for doing it, but only administrators can do it, and it is a bit tricky!).
Place a ((histmerge|NAME OF PAGE THE ARTICLE WAS CUT FROM)) template at the new location of the article which has been moved through cut and pasting, i.e. on the article where the pasting was done.
If the issue is clear-cut (straight up cut-and-paste move to a better title), having the template on the page should be enough. In more complex cases (explained at Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves), please leave a description of the problem under the "Repair requests" section.
An administrator will look over the pages and perform whatever tasks are necessary.
Once this is done, the admin may post the result here.
Done. For the record, it helps to indicate that it's a histsplit, because I almost declined for not having any history to merge. Primefac (talk) 21:49, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
Bradney, the edit history up to 2013 was about a place in Somerset. In 2008 the article was merged, in 2013 the redirect was replaced with a DAB page. The version up to (and including) the 2008 redirection should be split to Bradney, Somerset. The version from 2013 and after should stay at the base name-Bradney. With respect to the talk page only the last version should be kept at the DAB page, the rest is for the place in Somerset and thus should be at Talk:Bradney, Somerset. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:43, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
Given that Bradney, Somerset does not exist, do you feel that this is an attempt to back-door your way around your editing restriction? Primefac (talk) 21:17, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
@Primefac: the edit history of "Bradney" consists of it being about a place in Somerset and a DAB which shouldn't be the case. No new article is being created and the edit history of the place in Somerset will continue to be a redirect to Bawdrip as it previously was. I still have 19 unsubmitted AFCs so if you otherwise wouldn't feel comfortable preforming this I can count this as 1 of my one a week AFC submissions. Crouch, Swale (talk) 13:11, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
Thankyou Primefac that's a good outcome since I'm not restricted on the number of drafts I create, only the number I submit. I didn't hve any intention (at least in the near future) of it becoming a separate article but now that its in draftspace I'll improve it so that one day it might be able to be moved back to mainapace. Note that I was checking places without Commons categories when I checked the article's history. Crouch, Swale (talk) 14:03, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
An editor has performed peculiar actions on articles Kodikurichi and Sivaramapettai. K was moved to S. K became a ediect. They "fixed" that and K and S are now identical. K appears to be the correct article. S has all the revision history. I confiess to perplexity. I have messaged the editor, see User talk:Rishinataraj. I think this needs an admin to (a) help the editor and (b) work out what outcome is required. FiddleFaddle10:48, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
Having accepted K at AFC I am as certain as I can be that K is the correct article title, albeit with the content/history from S. FiddleFaddle11:03, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
Notwithstanding my rejected request below, there were four deleted edits for John Papas that were also about the football coach. Please restore both edits made on 17 December 2007, as well as the edits made on 13 February 2008 and 24 June 2008, while leaving all the other edits deleted. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 20:05, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
There is still a problem. Namely, in Special:Diff/247443741, it appears as though Geologik did more than just replacing a template tranclusion. To properly attribute the bot generated titles and the external link, you must undelete both DumZiBoT's 13 February 2008 edit and Paulmcdonald's 24 June 2008 edit for John Papas. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 00:52, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
Done. While I don't think this is a direct copy/paste based on other creations by that editor, the leads are close enough it makes me think they started there. Primefac (talk) 21:01, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
User:Filofiltonx/sandbox to Draft:Katrina Larkin: the sandbox is a continuation of work on Draft:Katrina Larkin (which was created by another editor) and as such should be merged there to preserve attribution. Nathan2055talk - contribs18:50, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
I object to this, the pages have parallel histories. The Willow (TV series) page may have existed earlier, but it existed in the wrong location, as it does not have a set title (calling it just Willow would be inaccurate). Rusted AutoParts18:16, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
@Anthony Appleyard: All right, that's fine. However, those two pages need to be restored somewhere separately (Draft:Black Book Research and Draft talk:Black Book Research, I guess) since the COI declaration on Draft talk:Black Book (company) currently points to a dead link since the editor's actual disclosure was on the now deleted Talk:Black Book Research. The page K. S. Harisankar was deleted before a history merge from Draft:KS Harisankar could have been done, so merging now requires a few extra steps. Namely, all the non-redirect edits (look at the number of bytes, which should have four digits, not two) for "K. S. Harisankar" should first be restored, and then after that, the article's history should be merged into "Draft:KS Harisankar" by deleting, moving, and undeleting. After merging, the ((db-g11)) and ((histmerge)) tags should then be removed from the draft, and Talk:K. S. Harisankar should then be restored and moved to Draft talk:KS Harisankar. The history of John Papas currently contains edits that are about other people with similar names. Please do the following steps to split the page's history:
Delete "John Papas" (the page has no deleted edits, so there is no need to move it to a temporary title).
Undelete the 04:22, 11 November 2006 edit, and move it to John Pappas (student).
Undelete the four 31 May 2007 edits, and move them to John Pappas (goalkeeper).
Undelete the 23:45, 27 June 2008, 00:32, 28 June 2008, and 00:39, 28 June 2008 edits, and move those three edits to John Pappas (born 1916).
Undelete the rest of the edits for "John Papas".
Finally, delete the pages "John Pappas (student)", "John Pappas (goalkeeper)", and "John Pappas (born 1916)", which contain edits that were originally deleted at "John Pappas".
Also, the page John Pappas (currently a redirect) had some deleted edits that were about an actor. Please do the following steps after the above steps are done:
Move "John Pappas" to a temporary title (make sure that no redirect is left behind and the option to move the talk page is selected).
Undelete all of the deleted edits for "John Pappas", and move them to John Pappas (actor).
Undelete the single June 2008 edit for Talk:John Pappas, and move it to Talk:John Pappas (born 1916).
Undelete the edits for "Talk:John Pappas" from 2014 and later, and move them to Talk:John Pappas (actor).
Undelete the rest of the edits for "Talk:John Pappas", and merge them into the history of Talk:John Papas. This creates a redirect, which must then be deleted prior to doing the next step.
Move the temporary title back to "John Pappas".
Finally, delete the pages "John Pappas (actor)", "Talk:John Pappas (actor)", and "Talk:John Pappas (born 1916)".
Not done as a nonsensical set of requests. Yes, the old revisions of Papas should not have been restored, so I deleted them under the previous A7s to which they were deleted. There is no reason to split deleted history of pages. Primefac (talk) 20:00, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
Not done: It is unlikely that there was a single direct total cut-and-paste event from the 2 edits in page Jasrado Chisholm to the 16 edits in page Jazz Chisholm. Extracting these 2+16 edits and chaining them together somewhere, would cut more history than it would rejoin. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:58, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
@Zxcvbnm: Page Universe of The Legend of Zelda seems to have undergone steady development from a stub at 00:58, 28 September 2001. I have not found in its history any complete cut-and-paste event that would warrant splitting its history. It starts as a short article about the land of Hyrule, and at the end it still contains much matter about the land of Hyrule. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 12:11, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
@Anthony Appleyard: The article started out solely about Hyrule, and underwent a post-move subject change in 2008 to the entire Zelda universe, including other realms that aren't Hyrule, like Termina for example. That should really have been created as a new article, and Hyrule merged into it, rather than being totally moved. That is because Hyrule does not encompass the entire Zelda universe and while many games are set in Hyrule, others are not, or partially take place somewhere else.ZXCVBNM (TALK)15:50, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
@Zxcvbnm: "That should really have been created as a new article" :: but "should have" is not "actually happened", and we cannot change the past. Topic sometimes changes in a gradually-developing gradually-lengthening article. The change of topic was gradual, and I see no place to cut the history.
