Shyam Bihari[edit]

Final (60/1/0) Ended Fri, 10 Nov 2006 20:53:42 UTC

Shyam Bihari (talk · contribs) – It's my pleasure to nominate Shyam Bihari for adminship who has been a Wikipedian since August 18, 2005. I had the chance to work with him in his admin coaching and I'm absolutely sure that he's ready for the adminship and needs the tools as he likes removing backlog (about more than 8,000 edits in the untagged images project). Shyam is a good editor (some of his contributions are [1] and [2]), contributor to the Indian politics Project, maintainer of the Government of India Portal and helped Portal:India to get featured status.

He regularly reverts vandalism ([3], [4]), helps out newcomers ([5] and the reply: [6]) He can deal with difficult users and situations (a problematic discussion [7]).

Shyam has demonstrated dedication to this project with his featured portal and the ability to co-ordinate, maintain wikiprojects.

He would make a good administrator, that's why I ask for your support.

Questions for the candidate

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia in this capacity. Please take the time to answer a few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with? Please check out Category:Wikipedia backlog and Category:Administrative backlog, and read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.
A: My first priority in sysop chores would be where the requirement is the most to clean up. Wherever there would be a large blacklog I would try to make it clean up. that is why I had done lot of works on untagged image project, which had about three years backlog previously. Sometimes, I would like to work on Images with no copyright tags as I am very familiar with the project. I will work on CAT:CSD, Category:Copy to Wikimedia Commons, Category:Images on Wikimedia Commons, Category:Wikipedia protected edit requests also. I will keep my eyes also on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A: I was one of the major contributors to make Portal:India a featured portal. I am one of the maintainers of India Portal. I am the creator and maintainer of Government of India Portal which is recently created. I would love to make my further contributions on both the portals. I also had contributed in maintainance work for Wikipedia:Article Improvement Drive. I also used to update the statistics of all the cricketers. I work the most on Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian politics and I would like to continue my contributions there. As I have mentioned earlier I have made lot of contributions to untagged images, I liked that place also. Sorry, I do not qualify WP:1FA criteria.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: Yes. When I was working on the Untagged images project, I had to face many conflicts. One of the major conflicts was with PM Poon. It was resolved in a polite response from my side. His conversations on my talk page could be seen here and here also. Another major conflict was with Chrisobyrne. Discussions are available here and here also. But I was unable to convince him and he got satisfactory answers by filing a mediation case. In future I will try to deal with in similar manner which had no no personal attacks. I always try to remain civil, stay cool and try to resolve any conflicts by polite response. I assume good faith in Wikipedia's policy.
4. Review the edit history of User:81.117.200.37 and User:81.117.200.27, and any related article, document or other source. Should this IP/Range have been blocked at any point? When? Should this IP/Range be put under some sort of administrative probation? When, and of what type? Why or why not? Thank you. JBKramer 23:45, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A: Yes, both of the anonymous users are blocked. According to this User:81.117.200.37 had been blocked by William M. Connolley once for violating WP:3RR for the article Deflation (economics). User:81.117.200.27 had been blocked by William M. Connolley twice and by Naconkantari once for violating three-revert rule thrice for the same article. But I am unable to find where User:81.117.200.37 had violated the three revert rule. Probably the history had been deleted concerning some legal issues. Yes, I beleve in WP:3RR policy of Wikipedia, so they should be blocked any point of time if they are aware of it. If not, once a notice could be left first on their talk pages and if still they are reverting the pages then they should be blocked. For User:81.117.200.37, I do not think there is some need for administrative probation as he had violated WP:3RR once according to block log. But User:81.117.200.27 should need to have some administrative intervention at administrators' noticeboard. Probably both the IPs are using by same user, but until unless it is not confirmed by the contributions' way there is no need to have intervention of an administrator. Probably, that answers the question, still not, then please let me know. Shyam (T/C) 11:08, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose

  1. Oppose Did not read question 4 before answering. JBKramer 14:24, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
May I know what I did not cover in the answer and what were you looking for in the answer? Shyam (T/C) 14:38, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I asked you to review the edit history of the two accounts and tell me when and why they should have been subject to adminstrative sanction. You instead read the block log of the two accounts and told me when they were subject to adminstrative sanction. If your full answer to my question was "they violated 3rr, so they were rightly blocked," then my oppose would better read "does not take harassment of editors seriously." Additionly, you err far too far on the side of caution regarding the two IPs being seperate individuals - they are obviously the same. JBKramer 18:19, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps the answer lies on the user page of JBKramer and his declaration, "I urge everyone to avoid using Wikipedia for anything more than an interesting trivia and internet politics arguing site." I am sure that Kramer is frustrated and so I urge Shyam Bihari to be symapthetic towards JBKramer. I am sure that a time shall come when JBKramer shall again become a happy wikipedian. --Bhadani 14:49, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I urge to JBKramer to stay cool and assume good faith. I have seen the two arbitration case in which you have made statements, you may be quite correct but please assume good faith on other editors as well and please enjoy wikipedia editing. Perhaps, this should not be the page for it, but as Bhadani mentioned this issue here, I am leaving the message here. I would again say...enjoy editing wikipedia!!!.
