Portal:Equus (genus)

The vast majority of the content in this portal relates to horses, which are covered separately at Portal:Horses. I don't think the small amount of content about donkeys and zebras justifies a separate portal. Note the DYK section includes an item relating to horseshoe bats, so I suspect the automated script made a mistake. Hut 8.5 11:21, 24 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Evidently there is no time to check the results when you make portals at rates of every 12 seconds. That is an older DYK - so if the Golden Horseshoe or Niagara Falls (linked through Horseshoe Falls) gets mentioned in a DYK article it will get picked up automatically for this portal?

In addition to Portal:Horses which is a subset of this topic we also have Portal:Odd-toed ungulates which includes the scope of this portal and a few more animals. Portal:Mammals is above that I assume. (talk) 12:31, 24 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it would have included either of those articles had they appeared in DYK (or had hooks mentioning them appeared in DYK). I've changed it so it only looks for "horse" as a whole word (or at least I've insisted it must have spaces around it, since the cut down Regex it uses doesn't seem to support Regex word boundaries). Comment. Largely seems to overlap the much more established Portal:Horses. Members of WP:Equine might have an opinion on whether it is worthwhile. The problem with the inappropriate DYKs is common to all portals that include them automatically; the only workable fix is to use the DYKs the auto-search comes up with as suggestions, and add them by hand. (Hut 8.5's change will I think exclude all DYKs of the form "did you know abc is a horse?") Espresso Addict (talk) 01:03, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Delete as some kind of overlap between Portal:Horse and Portal:Odd-toed ungulates which is zebra content heavy. Also delete as an Automated portal that was not checked and can't be managed to prevent absurd errors. Legacypac (talk) 06:08, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
