List of Rosenborg BK seasons[edit]

List of Rosenborg BK seasons (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Nominator(s): Arsenikk (talk) 09:22, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Another Rosenborg list, this one took quite a lot of tweaking for all the columns to sort correctly, so hopefully it is good enough for FL. Arsenikk (talk) 09:22, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Lead image caption isn't exactly what I see, I see the opening of a Champions League match with both teams (tiny, weeny people!) lined up beside a massive trampoline!
    • Found a better image on Flickr and added it, which is hopefully slightly better. Arsenikk (talk) 19:37, 22 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "it was not permitted to play..." is there an easy way to say why?
    • I gave a quick and dirty answer, difficult to give much detail in the little space. Arsenikk (talk) 19:37, 22 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "the club varied between " not really, "the club moved between..."?
  • "Their only European trophy is co-winning the..." ->" Their only European trophy came when they co-won the..."?
  • Should Att be "Average attendance" rather than just "Attendance"?
  • Ref -> Ref(s).
  • Non-cup seasons should sort the Cup below Q1.
  • Would prefer to see refs in numerical order.
  • Is it "Union of European Football Associations" or "Union of European Football Association"? Check refs.
    • I checked this on Wikipedia and it claims that the spelling is with a plural, so I made it consistently such. Arsenikk (talk) 19:37, 22 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Comments
  • File:Rosenborg vs Chealsea at Lerkendal 2.jpg is missing alt text.
  • Some inconsistency with how numbers larger than 10 are written out; e.g. we have "Fourteen league titles were claimed", then in the next sentence we have "Rosenborg won 13 consecutive league trophies".
    • That one instance of writing "fourteen" was to avoid starting a sentence with digits. Arsenikk (talk) 09:33, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Rosenborg has played 186 matches and 27 seasons" - perhaps "Rosenborg has played 186 matches in 27 seasons"? At the moment it kind of sounds like the matches are independent from the seasons.
  • "The best performance is reaching the quarter-finals" - perhaps it would be worth expanding this sentence by mentioning who Rosenborg played?
  • Shouldn't "League key" be something more generic like "Competition key" since it includes the Champions League and the Europa League, which aren't leagues?
  • Do we need tooltip when the key explains what the initials mean?
    • My thinking is that the tooltips are helpful for those that have support for them, and they don't hurt others. Arsenikk (talk) 09:33, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • They certainly do no harm, just they seem a bit unnecessary when the initials are already explained. But if you think they're beneficial for readers I won't dwell on it. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:49, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • The Average attendance and Goals column don't seem to be sorting properly; em dashes appear when I'm expecting to see the highest value.
  • Could the footnote format be changed so they take up less room; footnote 1 is a bit of a nuisance by enlarging the width of the Season column. This list, for example, uses a more appropriate format.
    • I placed the note on a second row, so it takes up less space. I had originally tried to place the canceled season note in the table, but this made it impossible to get everything to sort correctly, so I removed it (see this old version). Arsenikk (talk) 09:33, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • The key doesn't explain what is denoted when boxes contain yellow backgrounds and a diamond.
  • "References and notes" - should it not be the other way around since the notes are presented first?

Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 21:45, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the review—everything is seen to or explained. Arsenikk (talk) 09:33, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Comments
  • "it was not permitted to play Football Association of Norway-sanctioned matches until 1928 because of restriction on the number of teams allowed to join the regional football association." Should be either "because of restrictions" or "because of a restriction", not what is there now.
  • "Rosenborg has experienced two golden era". "era" → "eras".
  • "Their only European trophy came when they co-won the the 2008 UEFA Intertoto Cup." One too many "the"s.
  • "and participated twice in Royal League." Should there be a "the" before Royal League?
  • The 1960–61 and 1964 seasons in the table have faulty color formatting in the cup column, which shows up to the reader. Giants2008 (Talk) 22:24, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • This issue seems to be created by ((sort dash)) messing up the rows and was solved with hard-substituting part the template. This is most likely caused by a short-coming in the template itself, which should perhaps be investigated further. Arsenikk (talk) 13:27, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • Thanks for the review and my apologizes for my inability to respond during the past week. Arsenikk (talk) 13:27, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Notes and References sections should be separated. Place the Notes section right above the References section.
  • Place the Bibliography subsection at the bottom of the References section.
  • Change the name of the References subsection to "Footnotes" (so that the "References" title won't be utilized for both section and subsection) (see FA Mariano Rivera if you need help with formatting the References section).
  • "9 times" –> nine times
  • "After World War II" – comma after II
  • "19 league and 6 cup" – use "nineteen" and "six" instead
  • "13 consecutive league" – use "thirteen" instead
  • "20 times,[12] and reached the group stage 11 times" – use "twenty" and "eleven" instead
    • If changing digits to words makes you happy than it is fine for me, but there is nothing from what I can see in the MOS that warrants such a change and I am uncertain if it increases readability. Arsenikk (talk) 13:27, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • Actually, Wikipedia's Manual of Style addresses the use of numerals. Basically, numbers from 0 to 9 are to be spelled out. Above nine, they are either spelled out or in numerals. For me, I always spell out a number if it is expressed in one word. However, it must be kept consistent, so what you did here is correct (with "twenty-two" and "nine" rather than 22 and nine). —Bloom6132 (talk) 18:43, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All fixed. Thanks for the review and again, my apologizes for not being able to respond swifter. Arsenikk (talk) 13:27, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Two minor comments
  • 1953-54 entry in the cup column does not appear to be sorting correctly
  • ref 2, the hyphen should be an en dash

NapHit (talk) 15:08, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Both fixed. Thanks, Arsenikk (talk) 11:44, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
