List of Plymouth Argyle F.C. players[edit]

List of Plymouth Argyle F.C. players (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Nominator(s): Argyle 4 Lifetalk 01:53, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am nominating this for featured list because I believe that it meets FL criteria. There was a sorting issue a couple of weeks ago but it all looks fine now after I included ((Sort)) in the rows which weren't sorting correctly. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 01:53, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I'm not sure why it happens but the site has always been working whenever I've visited it. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 11:43, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. I'll see what I can do later when I have time to sit down and focus, got to head out in a minute. Thanks for the suggestion. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 11:43, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Have now added a sentence about the introduction of substitutes to note C. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 12:07, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Added the player in question.
Done.

Comments - super mild mind you...
  • Is there a good link for "professional club"?
The reference to Danes? It states that the club became a limited company on 8 January 1903 and were elected to the Southern League for the beginning of the 1903–04. I've moved it back to the date to confirm it since the season the club joined the league is common knowledge.
  • " and promotion to the second tier of English football " just struck me but before this point, you haven't mentioned what tier they were in/elected to.
I've had a tinker, any better? Replaced tier with division. I'd love it if divisional names are returned to their original form one day, some people refer to League One as the First Division now which is hilarious, but in the world we live in I doubt it.
  • Not sure ref [20] covers "having made 21 appearances for Northern Ireland during his Argyle career".
Added a link to his profile on the Irish Football Association website. Still waiting for the SFA to add a profile for Jamie Mackie!
  • If it were me, I'd add context to Rory Fallon's World Cup appearance, i.e. when and for whom?
Done.
  • FIFA used as an abbreviation in the key, but not explained. *think non-expert*.
Added that FIFA is the sports governing body, I assume that is what you mean?
  • Note T needs a .
Done.

Thanks for the comments. Very kind of you saying "super mild", I'm surprised you're not fed up with the amount of Argyle content yet! Argyle 4 Lifetalk 04:05, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • In the lead, could you link "caretaker".
Done.
  • Could you clarify somewhere that the international column is for all caps/goals, not just those won when a Plymouth player. It's a little confusing that the lead talks of Capaldi being their most capped player, yet players with more caps appear in the list.
Expanded note D.
  • Wouldn't have thought the Republic of Ireland flag was right for Sam Kirkwood. He was born in Belfast before Ireland was divided, returned to Belfast after his English football career, and AFAIK never played for either international team. Not sure what would be correct, though.
Good point. Saint Patrick's Flag instead?
  • Moses Russell's image caption would make more sense if it wasn't compressed quite so much.
Expanded.
  • Should Paul Connolly's caption read "in his last season"? or tweak it to say "Paul Connolly scored his first Argyle goal in his last season at Home Park.", which is no longer than the original.
Done.
  • Aljofree caption should hyphenate under-18.
Done.
  • Nice to see my photo of the great Alex Govan put to good use :-)
We could do with someone of his class on the wing right now.

cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:18, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all of your help in getting it to this point. The number of player articles you did in a short space of time was brilliant. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 11:06, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This is a new one to me, I must say. First, the table in this list uses column headers, but doesn't use row headers, so I can't see why ! scope="row"| is relevant. I've looked at the page you link to, and see the method described, but I don't see anything to indicate that page to be part of the Manual of Style. Please could you point out exactly where in the MoS it requires this method to be used. Thanks, Struway2 (talk) 19:49, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah sure its WP:ACCESS#Data table. I didnt know so many people were unaware of the changes so I apologise if its not been made clear. Its a strongly recommended improvement. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 22:42, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
