- Nominator's rationale: Dual merge to Albanian sports coaches and 21st/20th-century Albanian sportspeople. Sports coaches aren't diffused by century, and even if they were there's not enough coaches to justify diffusion Mason (talk) 23:35, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

- The result of the discussion was: delete Category:Cashew fruit; no consensus with WP:NPASR for Category:Cashew fruit drinks. (non-admin closure) HouseBlastertalk 15:09, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Propose renaming Category:Cashew fruit drinks to Category:Cashew apple drinks
- Propose renaming Category:Cashew fruit to Category:Cashew apple
- Nominator's rationale: I created these categories when I thought that cashew fruit and cashew apple were interchangeable terms, but I've now learned that cashew apple always refers to the false fruit that the cashew nut grows on. I used cashew fruit because it looked like the more utilized term according to google search trends. BaduFerreira (talk) 15:46, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Comments on both categories are welcome, but noting that the proposed move of Category:Cashew fruit drinks has received no discussion. As it stands, consensus seems to be in favor of deleting Category:Cashew fruit.

- Nominator's rationale: men's and women's players are divided by nationality, not ethnicity/religion. Omnis Scientia (talk) 10:23, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment: there is an inconsistancy in Category:Jewish sportspeople. It makes sense where there are equal number of men and women competitors (i.e. track and field) but, IMO, it does not make sense where there are very few women and a lot more men. @Smasongarrison, @Marcocapelle, adding you for your opinion. Omnis Scientia (talk) 10:37, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Support in principle. Merging would be consistent with how other ethnicity categories are treated, such as Category:Native American basketball players. We'd have to manually merge by gender as well, eg to Category:Jewish basketball players and Category:Men's basketball players. Mason (talk) 19:11, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- It is a big WP:OCEGRS mess, with categorization both by ethnicity and gender. Support nomination to begin with. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:53, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Yes, it makes sense if it is just "Jewish basketball players" like it is Category:Jewish tennis players. Omnis Scientia (talk) 10:55, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- @Marcocapelle, should I nominate other sports divided by genders in Category:Jewish sportspeople? You know the rules better than I do so I'll defer to you. Omnis Scientia (talk) 10:57, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose. I don't see any benefit. And I see a detriment - someone looking for the 8 women who currently fit this cat would have to scroll throw and sift a larger cat. And it is inconsistent with how we handles gender/sports cats. We have other categories split by gender. The rationale for having them there, and here, is the same. We have many categories with few women, fewer than the 8 here, and more men than women. The appeal to "common sense" rather than wp rules is interesting, but I don't see common sense supporting the nomination. And I don't see anyone suggesting we roll all of those up. See, for example, Category:Albanian women's basketball players, Albanian women's basketball players (2 P), Armenian women's basketball players (1 P), Azerbaijani women's basketball players (2 P), Beninese women's basketball players (2 P), Chilean women's basketball players (1 P), Colombian women's basketball players (2 P), Costa Rican women's basketball players (2 P), Cypriot women's basketball players (1 P), Dominican Republic women's basketball players (2 P), Fijian women's basketball players (2 P), Gabonese women's basketball players (1 P), Guyanese women's basketball players (1 P), Indonesian women's basketball players (1 P), Kyrgyzstani women's basketball players (1 P), Liberian women's basketball players (1 P), Martiniquais women's basketball players (2 P), Mexican women's basketball players (2 P), Moldovan women's basketball players (1 P), Nepalese women's basketball players (1 P), Norwegian women's basketball players (2 P), Pakistani women basketball players (1 P), Papua New Guinean women's basketball players (1 P), Paraguayan women's basketball players (1 P), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines women's basketball players (2 P), Samoan women's basketball players (1 P), Scottish women's basketball players (2 P), South Sudanese women's basketball players (1 P), Surinamese women's basketball players (1 P), Swiss women's basketball players (2 P), Syrian women's basketball players (1 P), Thai women's basketball players (1 P), Tunisian women's basketball players (2 P), Ugandan women's basketball players (2 P).

- Comment When I created this category years & years ago, it was with the knowledge that there were other courtiers (a title I picked for lack of a better one) in other centuries, most prominently in the 15th, 16th & 17th centuries. Unfortunately, due to one thing or another, I have yet to create articles on said courtiers -- or to add existing articles to a related category. (Peter Heyling, for example, should be added to Category:Ethiopian courtiers. Another would be Walter Plowden.) As for the outcome, I don't have a strong opinion, although if the one category becomes overpopulated, this category could doubtlessly be recreated. -- llywrch (talk) 20:53, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

- Nominator's rationale: Chinese in Central Asia makes absolutely no sense. Should be renamed to "History of China in Central Asia" or "Chinese expansionism into Central Asia." SimeonManier (talk) 01:44, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment this earlier discussion was closed as no consensus. I think no consensus was the worst possible outcome, because at least something needs to be done here. I am open to all rename and merge suggestions, including as nominated. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:07, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Suggest Category:History of the Chinese in Central Asia or Category:Chinese in Central Asia -- as it isn't just expansionism, it's also trade along the Silk Road, and explorers and pilgrims (to India, to Mecca), and civil servants of the Mongols -- 65.92.247.90 (talk) 06:23, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

- Nominator's rationale: Overlapping category Mason (talk) 00:29, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment As creator of the categories, I feel I should explain my rationale: these categories were created with the intention of reducing the size of the parent categories, which, in the case of Category:19th-century American politicians, for example, contains over 13,000 names. Not all politicians are legislators. This places members of Congress, state governors, city mayors, and state or local-level cabinet secretaries all under a single banner. I do believe there is a real case for more subcategorization from the Category:X-century American politicians categories.
- For the sake of disclosure, however, these categories originated from an RFC about creating specific categories for members of the US Congress. There was not support to create categories for each specific US Congress, in the style of Category:UK MPs 2019–present, and so on, due to the bloat that would be created from two-year Congresses on the pages of very long-serving members. Suggestions were made to create new categories for members in each century. At the time, I concluded that the consensus was not strong enough for a very specific category set to be created, and went with the century-level legislator category instead. As I worked on the categories, however, I began to wonder if this was still too broad, with senators, representatives, state legislators, and city council members all sharing the same category. I have occasionally considered the possibility of opening a new RFC, with the specific proposal of creating Category:X-century members of the United States Congress category sets. There seemed to be some movement toward support for this at the RFC from earlier this year, but I did not think it was strong enough at the time, and discussion eventually died down altogether.
- TL;DR: I don't know the best way forward on this particular matter, and am not sure how I feel about these categories as they are. I don't agree that these categories overlap to the point that they're redundant, but I think there are some related practical problems I encountered with this specific scope. Sunshineisles2 (talk) 04:49, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- That's really helpful! Thank you for taking the time to explain it. How would you feel if it were renamed to X-century American state legislators etc? To make it a tad clearer how their distinct Mason (talk) 02:30, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- I've been mulling around a similar idea in my head, which would be to create subcategories of legislators, like 19th-century members of the United States Congress or 19th-century American state legislators, and the legislator category becoming a container category or eventually being deleted entirely. Sunshineisles2 (talk) 04:07, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Wouldn't this necessitate keeping the categories under discussion as containers? BD2412 T 16:10, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- I guess it would, though it's still a tentative idea, so I hadn't really thought out out all the considerations involved. Sunshineisles2 (talk) 16:27, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
