Nominator's rationale: Merge and redirect. The parent has just been renamed from Category:Eloise to match the main article Eloise (books). Both categories are in similar parents, which should be merged onto the target category page. – Fayenatic London 22:12, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Unclear scope; includes religious leaders, politicians belonging to a Hindu nationalist party, and authors who wrote about Hinduism. Also unclear what "Hindu activist" could even mean. Viable subcategories already exist (eg "Indian Hindu religious leaders"), so delete. Vanamonde (Talk) 15:31, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: A few months ago, this discussion established that we shouldn’t have categories classifying places based on the Romanian administrative system of 1925-1938. I guess we need to spend time on a new discussion to demonstrate to the same user that categories pertaining to the Romanian administrative system of 1938-1940 are also pointless. Nominator's rationale, this is a small-scale follow-up on a more elaborate opposed speedy rename nomination (see collapsed below). The rationale for this is WP:SMALLCAT in combination with the fact that the All-Palestine Protectorate was a hardly a real country, it did not function except for issuing passports and it was recognized by very few other countries. Oppose this batch. This is a non-consensus topic and worthy of a full discussion. For instance, I wonder if many of the categories for this short-lived puppet government may not rather be merged elsewhere rather than just renamed. Place Clichy (talk) 19:11, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
What exactly are you opposing? The categories aren't nominated for either deletion or creation (if that were a thing). It's just aligning the names with each other and the parent article and category per C2D. Gonnym (talk) 21:07, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Imho this is still worth a full discussion. Whatever the target here it will be non-consensual. A full discussion will allow us to reach a consensual target. Place Clichy (talk) 22:40, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry but I don't see how exactly this is a valid oppose. This is exactly what C2D means. If the name isn't good, it should be handled at the article level and not at the category levels. CFD should not make WP:LOCALCONSENSUS a thing. --Gonnym (talk) 22:51, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Place Clichy: are you planning to move these categories to full CFD in order to have them merged? (because if you are not, there seems to be little reason to further delay renaming) Marcocapelle (talk) 05:37, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
C2D allows for exceptions, and requires anyway that the target is both unambiguous and uncontroversial, neither of which are met here. Anyway, the real issue here is that what is called All-Palestinian Protectorate in the eponymous article never actually had any existence (beside its first 3 months in 1948 according to the author of most of these categories, as argued here) and that this content should probably better be located elsewhere than in what looks like a country category structure. Notably, all the chronology and (dis)establishment categories would probably better be served by referring to an expression like Egyptian rule in the Gaza Strip, or sticking to a purely geographical terminology such as Palestinian territories or Gaza Strip. They may also be purely deleted or upmerged to larger parents. Note that all these categories have actually very few articles in them. Besides the articles directly related to the Egyptian short-lived straw government (All-Palestine National Council, All-Palestine Government) and wider articles relative to the Arab-Israeli conflict and Israeli military operations, all you have is two localities (Kfar Darom and Bureij), a newspaper (Gaza Weekly Newspaper) and a football club (Shabab Rafah). This is very little content for 31 chronology and establishment categories. For the time being and until someone creates a CfD for them, a name that mentions (Gaza) is more useful to the reader than a name that does not include it, for most or all of these categories. Nominator's rationale: Clarityfiend has referred to this as an "idiotic category", and I'm not sure what it is supposed to include or exclude, so I decided to start a discussion here. Is it for articles with titles that are transliterated from Hebrew? Is it for articles whose title is a name for humans which have Hebrew origins? Is it even appropriate to categorize by article title rather than article content? I think not, but that is the status quo here. What should this category be? Also, Dbachmann has suggested that it should be moved to Category:Hebrew names. Daask (talk) 13:50, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@SportingFlyer: I'll readily confess I'm unsure about the proper format for this discussion. However, I'm confused by your opposition to any action. I ask a number of questions in the nomination that I still don't know the answer to. I'm fine with Fayenatic london and Marcocapelle's suggestion of redefining the category to human personal names, but that's a substantial change from the status quo; many articles here are not human names. Daask (talk) 20:13, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: According to CNN, this is the name of an online space shared by several people involved with Black Birders Week. It is also a Twitter account. I put this up for discussion because it seems outside the scope of our usual categorization and I'm not sure how we're supposed to determine inclusion. Presumably it isn't meant to include all African-Americans in STEM. gobonobo + c 03:51, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I created the category to list all Wikipedia articles about notable members of the collective with the same name. It is an organized group and has been extensively covered by reliable secondary sources with details about their objectives and activities. It has a companion Wikidata item BlackAFinSTEM (Q96085129) linked to the items of the corresponding members and holding additional information about the collectivee. The category serves a pretty well-defined purpose and I am not sure about the purpose of deleting it since it's similar to many other categories about organizations and collectives. --DarTar (talk) 03:59, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep The category has the purpose of listing all the articles about the notable members of the collective. Both the collective and many of its notable members have been and continue to be currently covered in reliable secondary sources. I'm in favour of keeping it. --Ambrosia10 (talk) 04:07, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The name means Black as fuck in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). It's possible that BlackAFinSTEM could warrant a stand-alone article and I'd support this category once one exists. gobonobo + c 20:42, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Whether the category is defining has nothing to do with whether there's a standalone article for the topic, this still won't be defining once an article is created. SportingFlyer T·C 14:13, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Propose Deleting/Listifying Category:Astrid Lindgren Prize winners
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:OCAWARD)
The Astrid Lindgren Prize is an award for children's authors writing in Swedish named after Astrid Lindgren. There is another, similar award also named after her called the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award which is more prominent while this award seems relatively obscure. Within the articles, this Astrid Lindgren award seems non-defining and is generally mentioned in passing or not at all, although a few have it in the intro. The contents of the category are already listified here in the main article for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:38, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Propose Deleting Category:San Diego Film Award winners
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:OCAWARD)
The San Diego Film Awards main article was deleted here in AFD due to lack of WP:NOTABILITY and concern that banned editors were spamming to promote an event. In contrast, the standard with this category is WP:DEFINING and, of the 5 articles in the category, 4 don't mention the award at all and 1 ("Shotgun" Tom Kelly) mentions it in passing. This doesn't seem like it would aid navigation and the creator is also blocked. I saved the current category contents here for reference. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:38, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
