Contested PROD. Appears to be a non-notable organization, as I am unable to find evidence of notability to meet WP:ORG. The organization appears to publish an academic journal, and offers several awards, but I don't see any significant coverage in secondary sources. The most I was able to find is announcements from similar organizations about joint meetings, etc. Also, the lack of articles for the other organizations they work with implies (but does not prove) a lack of notability. —Darkwind (talk) 22:59, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Keep This is the US national society in its academic field. Although some of the organization is holds meeting with aren't notable (for example, when it holds a meeting together with a regional society for the place the meeting is held) some of them are extremely important societies. The positive half of this is the important part, for one does not expect everything an organization does to be important. Their journal is in WOS [1], and therefore notable and at the very least an article could be made on it. Weak delete. This appears to be a serious and well-established academic society, but I can't find any third-party sourcing, and even from the society's web site I am having difficulty finding out such basic questions as: How big is it? Is the membership growing, stable, or shrinking? Do its members view the International Phycological Society as a rival, a friendly alternative, higher or lower prestige? Given its name, is its scope purely limited to the US, or does it have significant participation from other countries? In the absence of reliable sources it is very difficult to say anything encyclopedic about this society. But if sources do turn up I'd be happy to change my mind, because to me this looks like the sort of organization that should have an article. —David Eppstein (talk) 20:06, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Keep Phycology is a niche discipline with wide influence including biofuels, diversity, ecology and so on. PSA is among the oldest organizations devoted to the study of algae. The Journal of Phycology currently has an impact factor of 2.071 and is ranked 28/97 for Marine & Freshwater Biology and 59/190 for Plant Sciences.[2] While trying to find independent WP:RS giving indepth coverage to PSA, I found none but did find membership or publication in the journal listed in the CV of hundreds of academics and scientists. The journal is frequently cited to support WP articles from algae to Lake Bonney (Antarctica). The article needs some work, consolidating the meeting list to one link and expanding the section on awards and the journal.
