Vargashinsky District (Russian: Варгаши́нский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[4] district (raion), one of the twenty-four in Kurgan Oblast, Russia. It is located in the central and northern parts of the oblast. The area of the district is 3,020 square kilometers (1,170 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the urban locality (an urban-type settlement) of Vargashi.[1] Population: 19,919 (2010 Russian census);[2] 23,255 (2002 Census);[6] 24,417 (1989 Soviet census).[7] The population of the administrative center accounts for 46.5% of the district's total population.[2]
