Hi! Welcome to the sixth edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!
Teahouse serves over 700 new editors in six months on Wikipedia! Since February 27, 741 new editors have participated at the Teahouse. The Q&A board and the guest intro pages are more active than ever.
Automatic invites are doing the trick: 50% more new editors visiting each week. Ever since HostBot's automated invite trial phase began we've seen a boost in new editor participation. Automating a baseline set of invitations also allows Teahouse hosts to focus on serving hot cups of help to guests, instead of spending countless hours inviting.
Guests to the Teahouse continue to edit more & interact more with other community members than non-Teahouse guests according to six month metrics. Teahouse guests make more than twice the article edits and edit more talk pages than other new editors.
New host process implemented which encourages anyone to get started as a Teahouse host in a few easy steps. Stop by the hosts page and become a Teahouse host today!
Host lounge renovations nearing completion. Working closely with Teahouse hosts, we've made some major renovations to the Teahouse Host Lounge - the main hangout and resource space for hosts. Learn more about the improvements here.
As always, thanks for supporting the Teahouse project! Stop by and visit us today!

Thanks for the comment! I thought about separating each school into individual articles; however, the schools listed are considered as one entity if that makes sense.
I do have one question, would it be worth creating an individual page for each school and redirecting to the Bardstown City Schools page???
(Cskcsk (talk) 01:03, 6 September 2012 (UTC))
I think that would be ideal in your scenario, at least for the moment. Upon further reading I see where you're coming from (as far as the "single entity") - I'll get to doing those redirects now, actually. Please let me know if you have any further questions about editing/contributing to Wikipedia! Cheers, Theopolisme01:04, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
What would be the easiest way to get approval to add the logo from the Bardstown City Schools official web site to the Wikipedia page? I am not sure how that works. I can contact the Superintendent since I have family that attends the school. Would he need to contact someone at Wikipedia via email with approval?(Cskcsk (talk) 23:19, 6 September 2012 (UTC))

Thanks for telling him. I agree with you - I wouldn't feel comfortable with him being an instructor at the moment (per the ANI thread, his general demeanor, and the various threads scattered across talk and project pages -- which you know all too well about, I'm sure)... Thanks for being an "admin-presence" in this situation ;) Theopolisme23:28, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
There is more to this than meets the eye particularly where the main criticisms of the project concern the general level of maturity. I think it's going to sort itself out soon though. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:10, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
This dispute has been going on for over ten years and there have been over 1,300,000 words posted on the article talk page (by comparison, all of the Harry Potter books together total 1,084,170 words). Over the years the dispute has been through multiple noticeboards, mediators, and even the Arbitration Committee without resolving the conflict, so a lot of wisdom is needed here. --Guy Macon (talk) 00:57, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

hi i saw your message on the event page. i live in memphis and know several friends who will be interested in this event. if you are still thinking about doing a memphis one lemme know. thanks
Hi Theo. I've just created a wiki page for a band i'm working with named Nightlives. Their album is about to come out in one month, and I thought I would make a page as to support the release. Is this not acceptable? I'm wondering if you could help me understand what I've done wrong.
Hi there, Nightliveshq! Sorry for the delayed response. Generally, it's not reccomended that you edit on behalf of a company or organization (or band, in your case)... this is a conflict of interest and could get you blocked. As far as creating the article about the band is concerned, this page has far more information then I could say here - give it a look, and let me know if you still have questions. Cheers! Good thinking
Good thinking here, as people generally need the ability to explain better than templates do at why they reverted. It didn't occur to me that should be accessed, but I think it should now. Perhaps you could push instructors to test the students about "why" they reverted a edit. --Mysterytrey00:58, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
I just happened to notice the CVU invitation on this user's talk page. I've just declined Rollback rights because the user has only 42 edits and no demonstrable counter-vancdalism. Unless there is something I've missed, thanking people for all their hard work on CV is not really appropriate and may lead them to apply for rights they are not ready for. It's a bit like the problem we have with members of the Welcoming committee who insist on welcoming every newbie who has never edited at all or whose only edits were vandalism! If anyone else from the CVU is posting these templates perhaps you could give them a heads up. Cheers. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 10:27, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi Kudpung - I agree, and I think that, while the agressive "invites to the CVUA" (note the A - while I know you're of course aware of the differences, some editors may be a bit confused, as they're not technically interchangeable.... and many instructors are not members of the CVU, and vice versa.... but I digress.) While the agressive invites are what make the program successful (or at least a contributing factor - without them, finding new students would be an... interesting challenge). However, some re-wording of the welcome template is in order: How about something like,
Hello, Theopolisme/Archive 9! The instructors at the Counter-Vandalism Unit Academy have seen your hard work working to improve the encyclopedia, and we would like to thank you. But do you want to go to the next level? Would you like to know how to help stop one of the most prominent issues with Wikipedia? Then consider enrolling in the CVUA today to learn how to remove vandalism and how reverts, warnings, reports, blocks, and bans all come together to keep this Encyclopedia free from disruption! ~~~~
working should be work, And I'd get rid of the "would you like to ... with Wikipedia" sentence because we also use the template with users who have a hundreds of edits (sometimes the vast majority of them vandalism) and making it seem like we only cater for very new counter-vandals may scare some of them off. Theo NStriedinger I am a representative of the band. Information on the page is legitimate. Thanks —Preceding undated comment added 14:18, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi, NSriedinger -- take a look at this page for some more details - if you can show that the band has met one of those requirements, then I sincerely apologize for tagging it for deletion and will remove the tag. If not, though, no worries - I'm sure they'll hit it big at some point! Theopolisme14:22, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
Theo Performance in GILA!, a "notable film" (made for TV movie) remake of The Giant Gila Monster directed by Jim Wynorsky. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2175675/. Thanks
Just because it has an IMDb page doesn't neccessarily assert notability, see WP:IMDB. Was the band written about in any newspaper/magazine articles? Theopolisme14:33, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
Hello again, I was wondering if you could take a look at this article for me: Jefferson County Fire Service. Upon initial review there were absolutely no references or citations within this article. I have done some research and added them to the article and made other minor changes. There are still some things that need attended to within the article but my question is, who reviews and decides whether the "unsourced material" banners placed on articles can be removed? Thanks!!! Cskcsk (talk) 15:28, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
I removed the tag/template. Anyone can decide if a tag should be removed (Although, it could be considered a COI (Conflict Of Interest)). Only remove a tag if you feel the matter has been fixed, specially since you would want the same if you placed the a tag on an article. I am going to do a minor copy edit on it later. -- Cheers, Riley Huntleytalk17:44, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, Riley, for completely jumping in here... my words would echo yours almost exactly, so I see no reason to add them here. Cskcsk: if you still have questions, feel free to pose them to me. Thanks again, Theopolisme20:18, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Hey all :). We've just deployed another set of features for Page Curation. They include flyouts from the icons in Special:NewPagesFeed, showing who reviewed an article and when, a listing of this in the "info" flyout, and a general re-jigging of the info flyout - we've also fixed the weird bug with page_titles_having_underscores_instead_of_spaces in messages sent to talkpages, and introduced CSD logging! As always, these features will need some work - but any feedback would be most welcome. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:21, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
I was just getting a bit bored of manually moving things to Commons - I figured, oh, what the heck. Yet another password to remember. Theopolisme21:40, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
I didn't understand your edit summary on Riley Hunter's page. Could you please explain? Thanks. This might be a better place, since he doesn't like talk page stalkers and all. Hahaha. Lightheadþ21:44, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
I would strongly not recommend leaving messages on admin's talks, Theo. On another note, have you pushed this yet and would you mind looking at SnowySusan's AfC declines? Specifically this looks like decent sources to me, not near bad enough to decline, plus, she hit up half the AfC-space on my talkpage very quickly, yesterday. --Mysterytrey21:59, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Lighthead, I was just messing with you (and Riley) -- he'd previously said something to me on IRC which provoked it. Mystery, I agree with you in practice but if, as I said in the message, if it was some sort of urgent circumstance (I don't what it would be, but I'm sure someone has come up with one... ) then I suppose a message on an admin's talk could be okay - I'm not endorsing "bothering the admins" or anything like that, though. I'll take a look at their declines. Theopolisme22:13, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Like I said, I'm not impatient about it. But, I have a high degree of curiosity. Does the delay with the other users, as well as myself have to do with the sockpuppetry? Was he (I forgot his username), the main one involved in those requests? I guess I'm being nosey. Like I said, it's not out of impatience that I'm asking this, it's just curiosity. Cheers. Lightheadþ22:40, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
I don't think you understand. I was wondering if that guy who was involved in sockpuppetry was the only one handling the requests. I just don't want to give the impression that waiting for somebody to handle my request, I was just curious. Lightheadþ01:19, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
The guy who originally handled the requests was blocked for edit warring a while ago - the guy who was recently blocked for socking (anderson) was somewhat "handling" the requests, but he wasn't technically supposed to be doing so. Theopolisme01:22, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
Here's another question besides the ones I asked. I saw Stiki on your userpage, and so I downloaded. Do you know if there's a way to use Stiki to look at items on your watchlist? I couldn't see anything about that anywhere else. Thanks. Lightheadþ22:51, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Unfortunately, the answer to your question is no. STiki can only be used to search through 4 queues . You can find them in the top left corner under "Rev. Queue." I suggest using Cluebot-NG or STiki (metadata). -- Cheers, Riley Huntleytalk22:54, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Darn them TPS-ers - right as usual. Hmm, I don't really know of any watchlist-watching counter-vandalism programs... it seems your watchlist would be hard pressed to compare to the sophisticated queues they use. Theopolisme01:00, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
On 12 September 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Midnight Classic, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that an annual bike tour in Memphis, Tennessee, takes place at midnight? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Midnight Classic. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.
Hi. Before removing a BLP-prod because references have been added, it's a good idea to check whether the references actually mention the subject. It turns out that the three references added to Felipe Diego Junior a.k.a. "Dalbinho" didn't actually mention him at all, and the article was a complete hoax. It's surprising how often people try to get away with that - I have seen an article about a supposed champion boxer de-PRODded, after a string of refs were added which were indeed about a champion boxer, but not the same man. The trouble is that once an article like that is released "into the wild" so to speak, there is no particular reason why anyone should check it again. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 15:19, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
Agh, very true - thanks, John. Kudpung- I do actually log my CSDs/PRODs... I just have a tendency to not check them as much as I probably should (here and here). Again, thanks - and I'll try to be especially careful in the future. Cheers, Theopolisme20:04, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi. I'm just letting you know that I just deleted this user's creation as an attack page. Please note that attack pages must be correctly tagged because they will place a red alert on admins' control panels for immediate deletion. Please also consider reporting the user for user name infringement. Thanks. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 05:44, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
As I can't see the page in question, I'm not going to be able to compose my reply as accurately, but: in the deletion log, it reads, "00:37, September 14, 2012 Kudpung (talk | contribs) deleted page Donovan Chiu (Multiple reasons: speedy deletion criteria A7, G3)." That doesn't say G10... Just a bit confused. Thanks, Theopolisme12:22, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
Actually it looks as though I couldn't be bothered to change the criterion as I caught the page quickly enough. You can rest assured however that it was a blatant attack on a named person. That said, I'm far more concerned now about the user's name - it doesn't conjure expectations of future good faith edits. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 12:52, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
