Go to the image upload page - since they're public domain images, do this - for the last item (licensing), don't select anything. Instead, find the correct template from Template:PD and put it at the bottom of your summary. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Bob, I thought I followed your instructions and put the template, they're PD public Domain because they are studio publicity stills.

When you originally created it, it wasn't tagged, so an automated bot tagged it. However, even when you added the copyright tag, it wasn't a public domain one. That is the reason, they are publicity studio stills, and I got some courtesy of the Dunne estate, but they are studio publicity stills. I thought I did put the PD tag on there. Will recheck. So the reason is valid. Thanks and sorry bout the trouble.Ribofizz 06:49, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Publicity photos are not public domain unless the copyright holder has specifically released its copyright. If you can't document a release, these images are not public domain but might be usable under Wikipedia's non-free content criteria. -- But|seriously|folks  09:22, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when.
