Hi thank you for joining the WikiProject. There is still
plenty of scope for influencing things and making your contribution count. We
are about establishing standards for Novel based articles and writing articles that
meet our own and others high standards, and to improve Wikipedia's diet of articles
on Fiction books, otherwise called Novels. If you have any questions, do ask.
Please be very welcome. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk)11:32, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Carry on - placing infoboxes on Novel pages is fine. Also, placing the talk page notifications is fine, just the idea wasn't just to place notices and "not" the infobox. If you look at the history of the Infobox Needed page and then at the novels articles other have worked on you might get some more pointer. I will look at the instructions they obviously need improvements. Keep in touch. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk)07:22, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
These are generally covered by copyright, especially for recnt titles. However they are generally covered by "fair use" agreements. ie. to illustrate books with their description. So the short answer is yes, but only the book covers themselves are covered by this. You might like to review Wikipedia:Fair use. Regards :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk)09:01, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Hatchet.jpg[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Hatchet.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
I see you were listed as a participant in the League of Copy-Editors so it seems likely you can ... The thing is the Military history wikiproject urgently needs prose pros to help with our best articles. Milhist covers a broad range of interesting and varied subjects from film to biography, battles to weaponry, and Roman emperors to twentieth-century dictators. In Milhist, A-Class has become the last port of call before FAC and we are looking for people to help identify prose and MoS issues at A-Class A-Class Reviews and help fix them prior to featured article candidacy. We also have a copy-editing section in our Logistics Dept and that can always use experienced copy-editors. For most of our articles, you don't need to be a specialist in the subject matter, just good with words.
This is an invitation for you to join a brand-new WikiProject that aims to improve the articles tagged for copy edit. This is pretty important to Wikipedia because there are now over 4,000 such articles, some of which need quite a bit of help. This is not a clone of the LOCE because we will not deal with requests for copy edits, but will happily make improvements to articles at our own pace. If you're interested, sign up at the project page!
WikiProject Novels is currently holding a roll call, which we hope to have annually. Your username is listed on the members list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active within the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:Novels editor, please add your name back to the Active Members list. Also feel free to join any of our task forces and take a look at the project's Job Centre to get involved!
The members list is currently under review so we have moved all past active member's name to a Incumbent List and are doing a Project Roll Call. If you still consider yourself an active WP:NOVELS editor, please add your name back to the Active Members List. You may also wish to add your name to any of our many Project Task Forces.
Devil May Care, written by Sebastian Faulks ("writing as Ian Fleming"), has become Penguin Books fastest selling hardcover fiction title. It is the latest installment in the book series about British secret agent James Bond and was released to coincide with the 100th anniversary of late Bond creator Ian Fleming's birthday on May 28, 1908.
Me Cheeta: the Autobiography, written by a ghostwriter, is the autobiography of Cheeta the Chimp who is listed in the Guinness World Records as the oldest recorded non-human primate at the age of 76. He has appeared in various movie roles which included twelve Tarzan movies and even battled addiction to alcohol and cigars. The book is not published until October 1, but judges for the 2008 Guardian First Book Award were sent a early version and were so impressed that they have included it on the 10-strong longlist.
Stephenie Meyer, who is listed by Time magazine as one of its 100 most influential people of 2008, has decided not to continue with writing her draft for Midnight Sun after 12 chapters of the unfinished manuscript were leaked on the internet.
Current debates
Categories for Discussion has a series of discussions about whether to categorize certain specific types of fictional characters: double agents, dictators, characters with eidetic memory, etc. Advice from any Novels project members would be valuable in assisting them.
WikiProject Media franchises aims to help editors with the coordination of articles within the thousands of media franchises which exist and has requested input from our members. They are currently discussing a naming convention for franchise articles. Since this may affect one or more articles in our Novel project, they would like to get opinions before implimenting any changes.

Shortly a Coordinator nominations notice shall also be sent out to all members, which will commence the annual Coordinator selection process.
Next month's Newsletter will include a message from our Coordinator Maria, who will introduce herself and speak on our forthcoming elections for extra Coordinators.

Newsletter challenge
Our last newsletter's challenge The Pure Land was completed by our member Maclean25, who also provided us with tipline news for this newsletter.
The first person to start the article is mentioned in the next newsletter. This month's article is Leslie Ann Moore's first book in her fantasy 'Griffin's Daughter' trilogy, which was named by the Independent Book Publishers Association as the 2008 Ben Franklin Award winner for Best First Fiction, Griffin's Daughter. Note: This article was previously deleted due to lack of notability, but that now can be established since winning this award.

Members are encouraged to vote for the candidate they wish to support by July 21 at the Coordinator Elections. The Ed17 has decided not to stand for re-election. His Dark Materials task force has begun. This task force is dedicated to improving all articles in the scope of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. The main purpose of this taskforce is to expand, cite, and promote all articles in scope of the series. They welcome any advice or help that members of WikiProject Novels may be able to offer. If interested, drop a note on their talk page.
– Position of editor for the task force has been undertaken by Pmlinediter.
Hi, I have been a member of this project for a few months now, and after finally gotten to grips with Wikipedia I have decided to take on the role of writing this newsletter (currently by myself, but any help would be appreciated) with some helpful tips from The Ed17. After undertaking this I realise why it was so difficult to keep it going. I will, however, persevere. From the members, I would encourage you to vote in the Coordinator elections, and take up roles at the Job Centre. The project has struggled recently, and I am hoping to try and revive it. If, with the publication of this newsletter, there are a couple of things that aren't quite up-to-date (like the Collaboration part), you can be certain I am working on it. I will be trying to get a newsletter out on around the 21st of every month. Finally, thanks for the help Ed. Regards, Alan16 (talk) 23:41, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Novel related news
American writer Michael Hemp wins the 2009 Next Generation Indie Book Award in the Action/Adventure category for his novel, The Nadjik Pheromone.
This is my first attempt at the newsletter, and I hope it at least gets close to the previous high standards set by Kevinalewis and The Ed17. I will once again encourage you to vote in the Coordinator elections, as I hope it could be the springboard to revitalise the project. I'll keep working on the newsletter, partially because I like the stress, and partially because we need it to get members and would-be members interested. Hopefully the start of great things. Regards, Alan.

Because there has been little activity on our Collaboration page for a long time, I have made an executive decision, and chosen The Tin Drum as our Collaboration of the month. Hello, I am a school librarian in my ‘real life’ and so I use Wikipedia a lot with students ageing from twelve to eighteen. While helping students research various topics I’ve run across many holes in Wikipedia that need to be filled so I created an account and began editing pieces. I’m taking a break from teaching for a few years while I raise two boys of my own, so I created a personal account a couple months ago and am focusing on editing articles on literature as well as the upper Midwest area of the United States and theatre. I enjoy all forms of literature but most often read fantasy and mystery. I am an occasional editor with no intent to run for any post; instead, I look at one or two articles a month that need help and do what I can. My public library system allows home access to a number of academic and professional databases, which is where I find most of my sources. Finally, I am currently working on filling in some of the red links on the Newbery Medal page and then hope to turn the stubs into full articles. Anyone want to help? I'd be interested in starting a Award Winners workgroup. I am also active in the WikiProject Biography and in the Children and Young Adult Literature WikiProject. They all have areas of focus that compliment each other and my interests.
I was approached after the last newsletter by somebody who wanted to reach out to some of the readers, so here we are – Alan16(talk).
Hi all, the Sword of Truth Task Force is restarting to clean up the articles related to Terry Goodkind's books and there adaptations. With the new TV series, The Legend of the Seeker, the books and the TV show are getting more critical attention, which means more real world material to document this great series of book. I would love to have other's help, as I have only just recently joined to find no other active members. The other members, as listed, have mostly left Wikipedia or removed themselves from the task force. If you are interested I would love to talk at the forum: Wikipedia:WikiProject Sword of Truth/General Forum, or send me a message. Hope to talk to some of you soon, SADADS (talk).
All members are asked to assist where they can.
The next months collaboration will be selected on 21 September 2009.

Hello all. As you're probably aware this is the first newsletter since August. I had hoped that although I was unable to write one for the ensuing months, somebody would have picked it up, but that was sadly not to be. However I am back, and that should hopefully mean a new newsletter every month, like it used to be. There has been a lot of work done on novel related articles in my absence, however the project does not appeared to have progressed very much, which I'm sure you would all agree, is a shame as it holds such promise for Wikipedia. But with the new year approaching I am hoping that things will turn around, so I urge you all to get involved with the project in whatever way you can, and help it achieve its full potential. All that's left for me now is to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Orphaned non-free image File:Scar Night cover UK.jpg[edit]
Thanks for uploading File:Scar Night cover UK.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
