Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not remove citations or information sourced through citations simply because a link to a source is not working, as you did to The Colbert Report. Dead links should not be deleted. Instead, please repair or replace the link, if possible, and ensure properly sourced information is retained. Often, a live substitute link can be found. Links not used as references, notes or citations are not as important, such as those listed in the "External links" or "Further reading" sections, but bad links in those sections should also be fixed if possible. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. -- Irn (talk) 00:13, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

I reverted your edits on Virginia Foxx. Even though the links are dead, the information included in the citations can be used to find the information elsewhere. Although both of the citations are not particularly well-identified, I was able to find an Internet Archive copy of the first link ([1]), and it does support the article; I will attempt to find a working link for the other citation. We have the ((deadlink)) template as a note, not as carte blanche to delete the citation. Often, there are other means of getting the information from citations, including (in some cases) actually finding a hard-copy version of the citation in a library somewhere and finding what is written on paper. The other citation is from The Winston-Salem Journal, which is a regional newspaper with a circulation area comprising three states; I suspect that someone will be able to find a cite somewhere. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thanks for uploading File:10.2 Surround Sound Speaker Configuration.png. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:
((di-replaceable fair use disputed))
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. ☼ 13:36, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading File:Lutheran South Banner.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:44, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

In a recent edit to the page Bikini Atoll, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.
For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author used.
In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. RexxS (talk) 00:06, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Template:74th Texas Legislature, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Freebirdthemonk (talk) 19:23, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors November 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up
Participation: Thanks to all who participated! Out of 38 people who signed up this drive, 33 copy-edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. All the barnstars have now been distributed. Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing November and December 2011 from the backlog. For the first time since the drives began, the backlog consists only of articles tagged in the current year. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2690 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 56 requests outstanding before November 2012 as well as eight of those made in November. Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the October 2012 competition, and prizes have been issued. The November 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The December 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote. Coodinator election: The six-month term for our fourth tranche of Guild coordinators will expire at the end of December. Nominations are open for the fifth tranche of coordinators, who will serve from 1 January to 30 June 2013. Hi, dear editor mister freebirdthemonk, I have been working in the article list of jewish communities in the usa, and I did order it by states and counties, so please do not remove my headlines, thanks..
Hi. I noticed your edit of a link in a tree that pointed back to the page that the tree is on. I had especially left the links there, so that it automatically emboldens the text to indicate where the individual falls on the tree and for all the trees to be uniform so that inconsistencies don't develop in the tree on the different respective pages it's found on. I would like to inquire if it's necessary to remove the link, ie, is it a WP requirement? If not, I'd like to revert it back for the reasons I stated. Thanks. Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Ottamthullal. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. This is an automated message from a bot about this edit, where you removed the deletion template from an article before the deletion discussion was complete. Hi Achowat - Lately I've been trying my hand at making some barnstar ribbons, but I seem to be having some trouble making them look right. The primary problem I'm having is not being able to make the shadowing look right, and the lines embedded in the ribbon lining up right. Is there a simple way to place the proper shadow on the ribbon so it looks right? Cheers, Freebirdthemonk 04:53, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello Freebirdthemonk, first of all thank you for helping with a copy-edit of this article. It's appreciated. However i am not sure, if your latest date changes comply with Wikis Manual of Style MOS:DATE (section "Dates"). It seems to be either "month day comma year" or "day month year" (without comma). I have no preference either way, just pointing out the possible minor issue. GermanJoe (talk) 09:11, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi there. Thanks for participating in the WP:GOCE January backlog drive! I checked a few of your copy edits, and they are generally good. There were a few minor points I wanted to mention. On Sandra Fluke, I changed a part in the testimony section. "The activist" is potentially confusing, and "various" is vague and doesn't add anything to the reader's comprehension. A specific number there would be best, if the number of points she raised were known. On Polyus (spacecraft), I removed the extra year. The standard practice for articles is that, once a year is mentioned, it is presumed all subsequent dates are the same year until a new one is mentioned. Otherwise, your work looks good; keep it up, and thanks again! —Torchiest talkedits 19:28, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited William Martin Armistead, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Model A Ford (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thank you for reviewing my article. However, I wouldn't have submitted the article w/o presenting "verifiable references." Did you check the Reference section to the article? It provides the links straight from where I found the information. The website is an official U.S. Army website and as such used as a primary reference. As an officer who serves in that unit, I wouldn't have an amateur mistake of not providing a reference to the article of the unit.Shovonma17 (talk) 02:30, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
Please take another look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/James_Lawrence_(footballer) I'm reluctant to add more narrative - what's there is accurate and it can develop over time. I trust the Guardian article is sufficiently verifiable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chemical287 (talk • contribs) 20:58, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

Congratulations, Freebirds! You're receiving A Brownie because you reviewed 18 articles during the recent AFC Backlog elimination drive! Thank you for you contributions to Wikipedia at-large and helping to keep the backlog down. We hope you continue reviewing submissions and stay in touch at the talk page. Thank you and keep up the good work! Mdann52 (talk) 13:12, 19 February 2013 (UTC) |
Hi Freebirds, Thanks for editing this article and for placing it into the mainspace. BTI is somewhat better known in the bicycle world as 'BTI' than 'Bicycle Technologies International'. Would it be possible to place a link on this existing disambiguation page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bti ? Cheers Max shred (talk) 21:53, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

Freebirds Howdy! 04:34, 20 February 2013 (UTC)I'm not sure why you moved that to AfC; you might have moved it to a user sandbox. At any rate, it's not ready at all to go live and I've declined it. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 19:56, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
Hi Freebirds,
Thanks for helping out at AFC. When you move a page from a user's subpage to the WT:AFC subpage, you don't need to leave a ((db)) tag on the user's subpage. For one thing, it doesn't meet the criteria of WP:CSD#R2. For another, it might actually be useful to some editors, who might otherwise be confused where their article is. Please ask of you have any questions. --Floquenbeam (talk) 03:32, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your time to review my article, its been rejected by you and you said "This article needs cleanup and organization in order for it to be added." Can you please explain so that i can do what needs to be done to get the article published.. What sort of cleanup you mean, Thanks user: irajeevwiki — Irajeevwiki (talk • contribs) 05:30, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
Hi Freebirds, another user called Gwickwire just declined my article (reason is Cleanup ) I remember that you had checked my article and the only reason why we cant get this published was just because of the POV fork issue with "Ezhava" and we were communicating with Ezhava admin,. I had a look the communication between you and Ezhava admin and noticed that he / she is not responding to the messages you left in his talk page. Would you please advice me what i can do now to get this article published. This was my first article and i am bit desperate here. Spent a lot of time on this article. Thanks for your help, hope you can help to get this article published soon. Irajeevwiki (talk) 04:50, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
Hello Freebirds,
Just to ask you what reliable sources should I provide, in order the article about SeekFast to be approved?
Actually, the software has been tested and approved by the most authoritative software sites. It is also used by thousands of people worldwide. I am also using it for several years.

Hi Freebirds, thank you for your time you took to review the first draft of Wikipedia article for Lindsay Levin. I have followed your feedback and updated the leaded and added additional information and references to third party sources. When you get a chance, please review. Tevahine just wondered what happened to their draft: You un-submitted it from review with this edit because we had an older, stale, unrelated draft on the same subject at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Ofer Zur. Firstly, the existence of another draft that isn't submitted for review at the same time is not a valid reason for declining a submission. Secondly, you didn't even notify Tevahine and left them with very little opportunity to determine what happened to their draft. I've given Tevahine a lengthy explanation, both of what happened and of why the draft can't be accepted in its current state, but I'd ask you to be a little more careful the next time you un-submit a draft without formally declining the submission - at the very least, please notify the author.
