Thanks for letting me know you reverted my edit. The definitions at Adinkra are from Rattray—we can't change them without noting it and having a source. I found this sentence, '"Gye 'Nyame" means either ' Except God ', or Accept God ', the former interpretation being the more likely of the two, in which case the phrase in full should be "Agye Nyame".' in Self-help and expansion: a review of the work and aims of the Youth Conference, with a statement of its policy for 1943, and the action consequent upon that policy (1943), by Joseph Boakye Danquah. Is that correct, especially the change from "Gye" to "Agye"?
I wish I'd given a link to where I found the definition from Rattray, because I can't find it now.
Various sources on the Web say it should be understood as "only God" or as "[I fear no one] except God." Are those correct?
It's really remarkable that the same Ashanti word or two very similar words should be translated into English as "accept" and "except". —JerryFriedman (Talk) 05:10, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
Welcome, Am sure Rattray wrote "Except God". I think where "Accept" is appropriate is when and how it is used. I will say most Ghanaian languages have words that can refer to several words in English and other languages. I will make sure this is clear to both of us if "Gye" can signify "Accept" OR "Except" from my local mailing list from native speakers. If you wouldn't mind I can cc you into the mail. Thanks →Enock4seth (talk) 20:54, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
I'm surprised to learn on Ghana page that there are 6 million illegal immigrants and 3 million aliens. And the number of Ghanaian nationals resident in Ghana is 15 million. Well, I'm not sure if you're the author of that deceiving information on Ghana page but I know you're one of the contributors. Hell knows that there are no 6 million illegal immigrants in Ghana, Ghana is not your typical advance country like US that attracts so many illegals. Unless you tell me that those Ghanaian citizens, whose ethnic backgrounds does not correspond to a typical Ghanaian ethnicity like Ewes, Akans, Ga Adangbes and Dagombas, are the illegal aliens. Its a disgrace to put this kind of divisive information in wikipedia because the world is watching. This kind of information does not reflect true history of Ghana and is only divisive. Most of the ancestors of the so called 6 million illegal immigrants migrated to Ghana pre independence and majority had established settlements (Zongos, etc) centuries before. I simply do not understand how those people are illegals. People should do their research properly and consult indepenedent history books written by scholars abroad before they come to those conclusions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.142.1.10 (talk) 19:07, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
