Hi there Caribbean, hope you're doing well. As you may have noticed, me and another user have recently gotten into a "flag war". You are one of the people who can stop this. According to that user, if either of the admins (you or east718) were to change the flag he would stop changing it back, thus ending this flag war. I am hoping you can go and change the flag so that you can put a stop to this, because it looks like east718 is having health problems and isn't around.
Thanks in advance,

Hi, CHQ! A user recently added what appears to be a valid ref regarding Héctor Lavoe's bisexuality to that article. I see in the history that you nominated it for FA, so I wondered if you knew enough about the subject as to whether that is correct? I'll watch here for your reply. Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 04:39, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Sixto Escobar sounds fine to me. I had some people look over Puerto Rican scientists and inventors for a possible "FL", but I am not going to persue it. Even though I have trimmed it down a bit, my only concern is that it serves as an educational article which may serve to motivate our youth to seek a higher level of education and I am fine with it as it is. Frankly, the "FA" and "FL" process for me is discouraging. Tony the Marine (talk) 00:07, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey my brother, here is some news that you may want to print in the next edition of our new-letter:
My DYK hook for Ivan Castro (soldier) drew 71,300 page views while it was featured on the Main Page. That's an all-time DYK record for most page views! The list of all-time top DYK page views can be seen here, and your Castro article is now #1: Wikipedia:DYKBEST#All-time best of DYK. Not bad, right? You are right about Isabel Gonzalez. I wrote the story because I became fascinated with the fact that this young female jibara (our "Rosa Parks") who did not know how to speak English, had the "cojones" and courage to take on the United States Government, yet the story of her struggles fell into the cracks of history. I believe that it is our destiny to make sure that she is not forgotten. Have you read the story of Felix Arenas Gaspar, the only Puerto Rican to be awarded Spains Medal of Honor? Happy new year! Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on it. Denniscmc constantly reverts my edits for the moment... Pacquiao officially vacated his lightweight belt in order to fight Hatton in June, and after Vázquez was named "Champion Emeritus" (which means he was stripped off his SBW title), Nishioka became the full champ. GreyJ, a BoxRec admin, confirmed me these facts. Also, you know I sometimes call the ABC's to get information. You know how I work, you know me for years, so... See the history and please tell Denniscmc not to revert my edits, please. It is not my fault that the WBC updates its page only once per month. Why doesn't he call them? Greetings, claudevsq (talk) 01:20, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
According to Finding Aid to the Letters and Documents Relating to the History of Puerto Rico, 1660-1881, Salvador Melendez is listed as Salvador Melendez Bruna. As Salvador Melendez Bruna, on May 5, 1881, he sent a letter to Governor of Cádiz, relating to Benito Jurado's petition to return to Spain, on August 19, 1814, he sent a circular to the mayor of Puerto Rico relating to paper money and on April 12, 1815, a Transcript of letter relating to Vieques Island. [1]. According to another source, in 1816, Salvador Meléndez Bruna limited the cutting of wood in Puerto Rico for the use in Spanish ships and building. This was done as a consequence of the colonial wars of independence and illegal trade of timber[2]. The University of California, Berkeley Bancroft Library has in it's possession a letter written to Salvador Meléndez Bruna about the war in Venezuela. [3]
What I believe is that the "historical documentation" is right and that without a doubt his name was Salvador Melendez Bruna. Soemtimes, an author of a book (pre-computer age) may for some unknown reason get a name wrong: hence Salvador Melendez Ruiz and as time passes people will continue to use the wrong name and even source it. However, I would go with what is on the historical documentation of the governor. Tony the Marine (talk) 20:15, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

You know what? I have researched the situation on our flag and have come to the conclussion that for some unknown reason (I bet it has to do with politics) our government (PR) never established a code or regulation as to the exact "tones" of color to be officially used on our flag. I mean they state that three bands are to be "red", two "white", the star "white" and the triangle "blue", but there is no specific constitutional regulation which states what tone of "blue" or "red" are to be used. Interesting isn't it? I have suggested the following rewrite for the intro. of the "Flag of Puerto Rico" article: Proposed intoduction. Tony the Marine (talk) 20:25, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

I notice you have deleted an article on the above boxer. However you provided no opportunity for discussion on whether this was appropriate. In your comments regarding the deletion you say the following "No indication that the article may meet guidelines for inclusion: Not notable yet, participation in "The Contender" was in reality limited to just two fights, nothing remarkable outside of that". In response to this I'd like to make the following points which I hope you will take into account.
1. The fact is that this boxer was in the Contender which is a reality show of interest to many boxing fans. A lot of the boxers taking part in this tournament are not known outside the boxing world and this is a good opportunity to introduce them. 2. All other contestants in the series of the contender 1, 2 and 3 have profiles on wikepedia so with that in mind why would escalera not meet guidelines for inclusion? Could you help us with a very disruptive editor at D.R.-related articles, please?
For months the user has been inventing all sorts of information about D.R.: everything from the total national population, to provincial flags, coats of arms, and nicknames — even invented a province!
The user is at it again, despite a final warning last week on one of his/her user pages (User talk:MRDU08). Among the several usernames and IPs from which s/he edits are Santiago3.0, MRDU09, MRDU08, and 24.190.178.193.

Who knew that even for non-boricuas the flag of Puerto Rico was such a passionate topic. Congratulation on the good article status of PR currency and Luis Muñoz Rivera. By the way, using Huggle I been seeing that vandalism is sort of active in Roberto Clemente, but maybe I'm overacting as a boricua. Saludos, --J.Mundo (talk) 20:23, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
Que pasa mi amigo (smile)? You didn't tell me that Luis Muñoz Rivera made "GA". Congradulations! I'll continue with Sor soon. Tony the Marine (talk) 01:19, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Cotto lost his undefeated record, got battered, and lost his world title to Margarito. Then in his next bout Margarito was found to have a plaster-like substance underneath his wraps. It needs to be said - I know that Margarito wasn't found to have the plaster-like substance in his fight with Cotto - but still it needs to be said.
I just feel frustrated because I spent ages trying to get the wording right, even though it was a really small edit, then you just delete it, say it needs to be rephrased, whilst refraining from saying what it needs to be rephrased *to*. I mean I am happy to change it but now I have to make the point of coming back next week to see if you have found the time to tell me what you feel is appropriate when I have 16 other things I need to do in my life. Why didn't just say what you wanted or why you felt it needed to be deleted when you said "it needs to be rephrased"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.112.70.38 (talk • contribs)

Why you deleted the Godless (Music Band) article? Must be really stupid to know you did it becouse is a satanic band from your country! There are lots everywhere! PUT IT BACK! There are lots of reference everywhere in the net and zines etc. Is not right to delete this.

Democratic Party 2000 Platform
Puerto Rico has been under U.S. sovereignty for over a century and Puerto Ricans have been U.S. citizens since 1917, but the island’s ultimate status still has not been determined and its 3.9 million residents still do not have voting representation in their national government. These disenfranchised citizens – who have contributed greatly to our country in war and peace – are entitled to the permanent and fully democratic status of their choice. Democrats will continue to work in the White House and Congress to clarify the options and enable them to chose and to obtain such a status from among all realistic options. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Seablade (talk • contribs) 05:56, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
Hi Caribbean! I just read your question on my father's page. I'm a boxing writer at [8]. El Vocero and the Puerto Rican Boxing commission generally accept as a world Champion anyone who has won a title, even if it was just the "KKK world boxing championship" (that's just a joke of mine but it's true). Most of the boxing world people accept only IBF, WBA, WBC AND WBO Champions as world Champions, and that, at times, begrudgingly. David Santos held an IBA title so generally speaking, he does not count. Santos once fought for the WBA and then for the IBF ones, but lost those two times. Kevin Kelley, on the other hand, won a WBC one, so he does generally speaking count as a world Champion. Kelley is Neuyorrican, and by pure coincidence, he discovered his Puerto Rican background the same month that it was discovered Luis Miguel was born in Puerto Rico!!
I know all the WB, IB, FBI's, banana's and PPP organizations in boxing are very confusing but the general rule is only IBF, WBC, WBA and WBO Champions are considered world Champions, and even then, fans still want all the titles to be unified so we can have one real, universal world Champion. It's like beans, you got like 50 different kinds or flavors, but that's how it is.
I hope this clarifies your question.
Thanks and God bless you! Antonio Freakylicious Martin 05:08, 05 April 2009 (UTC)

I just finished the San Juan Uprising article which should compliment the Jayuya Uprising and Utuado Uprising artilces in my "Puerto Rican Nationalist Party Revolt of the 1950s" series. Look it over. Tony the Marine (talk) 02:11, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
Not to worry, I will do a micro review for grammar and prose today. Tony the Marine (talk) 19:37, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
I have one request. Please do not nominate Puerto Rican migration to New York. The article is good as it is even if we can make some improvements, but I cannot deal with the stress of the unrealistic scrutiny that is now going on, including with the images. With my last "GA", I just about had it, see: [9]. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:52, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Hi, I cleaned out the Dead or Alive character articles awhile back and left this one at the time, but looking back at it I have some major qualms about it's notability and even the GA status. It was suggested I talk to the article's main contributor before doing anything, would that be you?--Kung Fu Man (talk) 18:08, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
Q: How common is it to see an officer that has received awards or decorations from more than one country?
A: Antonio Valero de Bernabe "The Puerto Rican Liberator" was the first Puerto Rican to serve for and be decorated by multiple countries. He served for Spain, Mexico and helped to liberate South America.
Yes, now it is, however it wasn't so during WW II. The situation was that the prior to WW II, Puerto Rico didn't have any private flying schools nor military flying schools. Felix Rigau Carrera wanted to become a pilot and joined the Army. Instead of receiving the pilot training that he wanted, he was assigned to Aviation Section, U.S. Signal Corps, U.S. Army. Rigau Carrera then went to private flying schools in Seattle, Washington and Minneapolis, Minnesota. He then served in France with the Armée de l'Air (French Army Air Force), after World War I, as a fighter pilot. Rigau Carrera was the first Puerto Rican to become a pilot.
Now, when World War II came about, many of our "Boricuas" wanted to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corps (predecessor of the US Air Force) and become pilots, but instead were assigned as crew members of bomber planes (prejudice? Maybe). Those who were determined to become pilots and could afford it, went to the U.S. and attended private (not military) flying schools. Even though they earned their pilot "wings", they were not accepted in the USAAF and instead were recruited by the Canadians. Among the many Boricuas who served as Bomber pilots or fighter pilots for the Royal Canadian Air Force and the British Royal Air Force were Mihiel Gilormini and Alberto A. Nido. When things got tough and the U.S. began to lose a lot of pilots in combat, they began to recruit Boricua fighter pilots and some of the men who were serving in the RAF transferred. It is amazing, but our pilots were among the pioneers of the United States Air Force when it was established in 1947 and among the few who served for and were decorated by three different countries during the war. I was told that this user: Special:Contributions/TJ13090 copied and pasted from the PR Campaign the Battles of Guanica/ Fajardo/Yauco as if they were his own creation. You and I went to a lot of trouble creating the sections in PR Campaign, to have someone come along and create articles as if it were their own work. This person is in violation of one of Wikipedias original rules which states that article's which are created must be a person's own original work and not somebody else's. This is plagiarism in it's pure form. I deleted his articles and made redirects. I left a message in the person's talk to this regard and since you have worked in the PR Campaign as hard as I did, I would appreciate if you also explained to the user the consequences of his actions. Hey mi hermano, how are those exams going? I was thinking about making an addition to the begining of the "Flag of Puerto Rico" article, not only because it solve some "Commonweatlh" problems in the future, but becasue it is the truth. I want you to look at it.
"The first flag of Puerto Rico was the "Revolutionary Flag of Lares". The flag, knitted by Mariana Bracetti, was divided in the middle by a white Latin cross, the two lower corners were red and the two upper corners were blue with a yellow star placed in the upper left blue corner. On the September 23, 1868, Puerto Ricans revolted against Spanish, seeking their independence, in what is known as "El Grito de Lares". The "Republic of Puerto Rico" was declared and Francisco Ramírez Medina was sworn in as Puerto Rico's first president. The flag which represented the republic was placed on the High Altar of the Parroquial Church of the town of Lares.

I am here to say hello. have a wonderful evening. Pedro ~~Io_Wiki2007~~ (talk) 18:07, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
I re-wrote the introduction and would like your opinion. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:04, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
I finished three bios., went to the hospital and came out O.K., sat down on my computer and told myslef "Now, I'll look into the Sor Isolina Ferre artcle and do some work on it". Man, what a disappointing surprise! Failed twice by the same guy! I had to express my opinion on what I believe is an injustice. Tony the Marine (talk) 02:33, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Hola, Caribbean. I am very agree with you. If they fight in less than 147 (142...) the fight will be some kind of even; who knows... Good morning to you in this beautiful morning of Saturday. Pedro ~~Io_Wiki2007~~ (talk) 10:57, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
You know, I am confused. The article of Enectali Figueroa has been nominated for deletion (AfD). I believe that the man is notable and figured that the article would not be deleted by "consensus". At first it was closed as "Speedy Keep" then the nominator complained and it was reinstated once more. A group whose credo is that A. Prof's. and people who have a limited amount of written work cannot be notable have jumped in. They refuse to accept the fact that Figueroa, is a pioneer in his field. Now, the deletionists have changed the rules as to state that "consensus" no longer matters and that what matters is their discussions and point of view. Have you looked at the deletion page? I hope that you can figure it out because I can't. Tony the Marine (talk) 06:52, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
Mi amigo, I thought that you would like to know that I wrote the bio. of Francisco Matos Paolí, Lolita's first boyfriend. Tony the Marine (talk) 06:08, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
Allegations like "copied from a website" don't make good reasons for deletion, especially if those critics can't name any websites in particular. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.3.106.232 (talk) 22:01, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Excellent. Thank for letting me know. I read the whole thing and this proves what I have always believed. Our work here is making a difference. We are providing the world with a perception of our island that our own people don't even know. By the way, did you know that the article of Dr. Figueroa was deleted? Now, I question what's the use of having a AfD consenus if the community's votes do not count, I think that it is dangerous in the sense that no article is now secure. I'm not sweatng it because of articles such as Puerto Rican scientists and inventors are here. Tony the Marine (talk) 04:37, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Nicole (Dead or Alive) got delisted a while back, and the featured topic it was part of is under retention. I was planning on giving it a college try to get GA again but I'm not sure there is enough in the way of sources to address the issues. Would you be opposed to a merge? --Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 20:30, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
The article Isolina Ferré you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Isolina Ferré for things needed to be addressed. Nikkimaria (talk) 00:37, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Just dropping by to see how things are going? Are you taking exams? I haven't seen Jmundo around lately, have you? Tony the Marine (talk) 05:36, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
As a friend I can only say that I am proud of you and that I hope that others follow your example. I have been involved in an interesting investigation with the family of Teofilo Marxuach. He was a member and officer of the Porto Rico Regiment in 1908. Since this was prior 1917, I wondered how he and the other eight original members who never resided in the United States and where Puerto Rican citizens, hence aliens, could be commissioned officers when military law clearly states that all officers in the US military must be US citizens. The issue fascinated all the historians that I asked and Rear Admiral Jay A. DeLoach and Colonel Hector Andres Negroni even joined me in the investigation. You see there were only two options, either these men resided in the US for 5 years in order to be Neutralized citizens (which they didn't) or by an Act of Congress. After weeks of investigation we found out that the act of congress which reorganized the regiment in 1908 also provided that these men all take new examinations and an Oath of Office which included an oath to US citizenship.
