It is true, perhaps something about his 'loyalties' to Bo should be written in the article, but Chinese politics at the highest level is always opaque and hard to verify... I'll see what I can do. Colipon+(Talk) 16:28, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's true that the coup rumors got a lot of play, though I think it's safe to say that they were probably baseless. There may well be serious infighting going on, and Zhou's unusual but brief disappearance from public duties may signal that, but there certainly were not tanks rolling through the streets, as some microblogs reported. I would recommend that this information be presented in a carefully contextualized way. Namely, the rumors–and the fact that they became so prolific— are an artifact of an opaque media environment that breeds wild speculation. A few days ago, I also saw that there was a crackdown on bloggers in response.[1]. Certainly, Zhou's factional alignments, relationship to Bo Xilai, and the role that he's played in recent events should be in the article regardless of anything else. Did you note the media? New Tang Dynasty. It's a Falun Gong affiliated media agency. There may be some wishful reporting happening there. Further, Wikipedia shouldn't be a platform for rumors, no matter which media report them. My two rubles on the matter. The Sound and the Fury (talk) 03:41, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think Piotrus was proposing that we channel rumors. There's a way to do this that is in keeping with encyclopedic objectives. Maybe I'll try it, if someone doesn't beat me.Homunculus (duihua) 05:07, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I just want to make the point that - should we be expanding the 'coup rumours' section of the article, we would have to expand the rest of the article commensurate with due weight. This may be a good thing - because Zhou Yongkang, one of China's most powerful men, is treated with such scant coverage on this encyclopedia. I'm sure Brookings, Noughton, Lam, or Cheng Li have written things about this man. Colipon+(Talk) 13:48, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It is not always possible or desirable to wait until the rest of an article is filled out commensurate with due weight before adding relevant information. If a few interested editors want to start building out different elements of the page, they should do so (bearing in mind relevant policies and guidelines).Homunculus (duihua) 13:59, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
