Could the Thulean Plateau eruptions have coincided, with either the KT mass extinction 65 MYA; or, the Palaeocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) 55 MYA ?66.235.26.150 (talk) 05:00, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The 'Thulean PLateau' part of the North Atlantic Igneous Province was formed over a period of a few million years from about 62–54 million years ago, so overlapping with the PETM. This paper suggests that it was uplift associated with the break-up along the NW Atlantic rather than the volcanism itself that was responsible, by releasing methane from methane clathrates.
