As with the List of Stewards of the Chiltern Hundreds I can't absolutely vouch for the dates between 1958 and 1970. The date of Geoffrey de Freitas' appointment is especially uncertain, and the dates for Edward Wakefield, Aubrey Jones and Sir Oliver Crosthwaite-Eyre may be a few days out. Charles Waterhouse definitely resigned on 29th October 1957. Polling day in the byelection caused by his resignation was 28th November. Frank Cousins definitely resigned in December 1966, as the byelection was on 9th March 1967. Source for 1944-1958 is PRO T 221/468. Dbiv 12:36, 3 Oct 2004 (UTC)
It makes more sense to have people listed under the names they were known by, rather than their full names.
There looks to be a pretty well documented page at http://www.alba.org.uk/timeline/1945to1967.html which gives St Clair's date of accession to the office as 2nd August 1963, as opposed to 1st August as given in the article.
I've spent the last two weeks working on a sandboxed version of the article. As such the list is now complete, every MP has his or her own page rather than a collection of redlinks and i've added a fancy-dan intro para :). Hope y'all enjoy. Ironholds 19:48, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
This list is largely based on Appointments to the Chiltern Hundreds and Manor of Northstead Stewardships since 1850, published by the House of Commons Department of Information Services.
A revised version of that list was published in January 2010, which contains a significant number of new entries, and apparently some revision. For example, I have just added Henry Butler-Johnstone, who is in the current Commons list as having resigned on 27 January 1862, but he was not in this list.
The entry after him is William Johnson Fox, listed here as having resigned on 27 January 1862, but in the Department of Information Services list as resigning 20 April 1862.
I suggested that this list be fully checked against the new version of the Department of Information Services list. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 13:13, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
There have been many press reports that Gerry Adams has resigned but it is clear that he has not yet been appointed. Note that the press reports do not state in terms that he has been appointed Steward of the Manor of Northstead, merely that he has resigned. Given that the reports first appeared in Irish news sources, the most likely explanation is that Sinn Féin issued a press release confirming that Adams has sent a signed letter requesting appointment to the Manor of Northstead. When an appointment is made, the Treasury will issue a press release here. Until then, no entry should appear in the list. Sam Blacketer (talk) 21:09, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps a note of explanation could be placed beside Gerry Adams's name on the list, pointing out that he did not apply for or accept any such position. Would this be an acceptable compromise? I seems a bit ludicrous to have his name there without any other information. 89.126.56.62 (talk) 17:17, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
Does anyone know why Goodlad is on this list? The London Gazette records him as being Steward of the Chiltern Hundreds (and he's on the wikipedia list for the Chiltern Hundreds). Is it true that he held both offices at the same time? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Frinton100 (talk • contribs) 12:40, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Chris Pincher is no longer an MP, and should now be the incumbent Steward and Bailiff. The writ has been moved to hold a by-election in his former constituency of Tamworth. 194.80.232.22 (talk) 14:00, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
