I'm drafting a section on indentured farm labour in the UK, but I wonder if there was also indentured servitude elsewhere in Europe? Any inputs would be appreciated, either on the UK section or on Europe more widely - Thanks -
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. I'm also not sure how this fits with mandatory military service (the draft), which is still legal in the U.S. though not implemented beyond registering men on their 18th birthday.
