Religion in Indonesia
→History: The name of the prophet is Zaratustra in Indonesian, as it is in Hindi and other Indian languages. In the past it was commonly written Zarathustra by western scholars, e.g. in Nietzsche’s work. In German this would, of course be pronounced with a “t”, not with the sibilant English “th”. The Wikipedia article, however, insists that it was prounounced Zarathustra with a sibilant “the”. The form “Zoroaster” is the Greek form of the name, and appears to be a transliteration. Sarju
→Etymology: Corrected errors. I cannot give a lesson in Sanskrit in this space, but you can verify the meanings given in any of the Sanskrit dictionaries at https://www.sanskrit-lexicon.uni-koeln.de/, and the derivation at https://sanskrit.inria.fr/cgi-bin/SKT/sktlemmatizer.cgi?lex=SH&q=sarayu%3A&t=VH&c=Noun. The verb सार्, sār, a variation of शार्, shār, means to be weak or to weaken.Tags: Mobile editMobile web editAdvanced mobile edit

Incheon Airport Maglev
→Past research: This is nonsense. Google “energy efficiency of maglev” and you will get page after page emphasising the relatively higher efficiency of maglev compared to wheels. BUT this is always in the case of high-speed maglev, where the reduction of rolling friction will greatly exceed the energy required to keep the vehicle suspended (where rolling friction includes the loss of energy through “hunting”, or yawing as it is called in a ship). That said at LOW SPEED in an urban magl...Tags: Mobile editMobile web editAdvanced mobile edit

→Diet: The propositions that a Cave Hyena would have chosen to avoid certain prey in order to lessen competition with another species is an anthropomorphism. It doesn’t really sound plausible that a predator would avoid taking one particular species of prey in the hope that another predator would reciprocate to show its appreciation. The opposite seems rather more likely. Under the circumstances, it seems appropriate to delete this unsourced proposition, in accordance with Wikipedia prot...Tags: Mobile editMobile web editAdvanced mobile edit

This passage is reliably sourced from a prominent widely-published Palestinian-American Academic, who would have been able to speak to people who were alive under the Ottoman Empire. It provides an extremely plausible alternative explanation compared to the unsourced paragraph immediately above.Tags: Mobile editMobile web editAdvanced mobile edit

→Class: The use of a hyphen in “left-wing” is an egregious solecism. This form is appropriate when the two words taken together are used attributively as an adjective. It is inappropriate in this case, where “wing” is a noun qualified by the adjective “left”.Tags: RevertedMobile editMobile web editAdvanced mobile edit

Rigvedic rivers
Macdonnel, Apte and Monier-Williams Dictionaries all give the meanings of river, ocean, water body, first, then the Indus River second as a secondary meaning. As Sapta Sindhu (in the nominative case in accordance with English scholarly convention) ) is the name of the country in Sanskrit as well as the rivers, it is more appointment to translate Sindhu as the Indus.

Rigvedic rivers
This is NOT a different word, or a variant. This is an important point because of the great confusion amongst speakers of languages, such as English, which lack case endings. The general practice in English is to use the nominative cas, regardless of the appropriate case ending in languages which have this.

One cannot define anything other than a grammatical concept “for grammatical purposes”. I note that no reference is given to support this. Nor would one expect the world’s first, and in the view of many, still the greatest to hame made such an error. If you want to revert this, you must supply a sound reference, i.e. a quote from Panini.
