Smolensky District (Russian: Смоле́нский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[5] district (raion), one of the fifty-nine in Altai Krai, Russia. It is located in the southeast of the krai. The area of the district is 2,033 square kilometers (785 sq mi).[2] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Smolenskoye.[1] Population: 23,955 (2010 Census);[3] 26,033 (2002 Census);[7] 40,590 (1989 Census).[8] The population of Smolenskoye accounts for 37.5% of the district's total population.[3]
