Shakuntala is a 1966 Telugu, Telugu Mythological film, produced by Lakshmi Rajyam, Sridhar Rao on Rajyam Productions banner[3] and directed by Kamalakara Kameswara Rao.[4] Starring N. T. Rama Rao, B. Saroja Devi in the lead roles[5] and music composed by Ghantasala.[6]
The film begins Saint Vishvamitra (Mukkamala) & Menaka leaving just born baby in the forest, Rishi Kanva (Chittor V. Nagaiah) found her in forest as a baby surrounded by birds, therefore, he named her Shakuntala (B. Saroja Devi), who grows up in his Ashram. King Dushyanta (N. T. Rama Rao) encounters Shakuntala while traveling through the forest and they fell in love with each other and got married as per Gandharva marriage system. Before returning to his kingdom, Dushyanta gave his personal royal ring to Shakuntala as a symbol of his promise to return and bring her to his palace. One day, Saint Durvasa (K.V.S.Sharma), came to the ashrama but, Shakuntala lost her thoughts on her husband and failed to greet him properly. Incensed by this slight, Durvasa curses saying that the person she was dreaming of would forget about her altogether. As he departed in a rage, one of Shakuntala's friends Anasuya (Geetanjali) & Priyamvada (Sarada) quickly explained to him the reason for her friend's distraction. Durvasa realizes that his extreme wrath was not warranted, modified his curse saying that the person who had forgotten Shakuntala would remember everything again if she showed him a personal token that had been given to her.
