Penki Pellam (English: Stubborn Wife) is a 1956 Telugu, drama film, produced by D. B. Narayana, S. Bhavanarayana on Sahini Art Productions banner[3] and directed by Kamalakara Kameswara Rao.[4] Starring N. T. Rama Rao, Rajasulochana, Sriranjani Jr. in the lead roles[5] and music composed by N.D.V. Prasada Rao.[6]

Plot

Seeta a wise woman lives with her younger brother drunkard Rangaiah (Nagabhushanam) and sick mother Seetamma (Hemalatha). Once a person commits Lakshmi, Rangaiah quarrels with him and the person dies. Police arrest him seeing this Seetamma dies. Now the children become orphans. Seeta takes the responsibility of Raju. Papayya (K. V. S. Sarma) their neighbor gives them shelter. Papayya's wife Tayaru (Chaya Devi) & her sister Sundaramma (Suryakantham) are shrewd women and they behave rudely towards Lakshmi. Papayya’s son Vasu (Amarnath) is a kind-hearted person and he loves Seeta. Knowing this Papayya blames Lakshmi. Self-esteem Lakshmi leaves the house and tells Vasu to forget her. Annoyed Vasu quarrels with his father and he also leaves the house. Sundaramma reaches to her distant relative Rao Saheb Govind Rao's (Relangi) house along with her son Hanumathu. Sarabhaiah (Ramana Reddy) a thief settles at Rao Saheb's house in a form of a fake saint. Both Sundaramma & Sarabhaiah steals piety items in the house.

Years roll by, Seeta makes brother Raju (N. T. Rama Rao) educated. Saroja (Raja Sulochana) an arrogant woman is the pampered daughter of Rao Saheb. Raju is in search of a parttime job to reduce his sister's burden and he gets a job as a tuition teacher to Saroja at Rao Saheb's house. Saroja loves Raju, to escape from her Raju stops working with her. Saroja convinces her father and marries Raju. Raju does not want to stay at Rao Saheb’s house, he gets a job in the city and leaves along with Saroja & Seeta. Saroja could not adjust at Raju’s house because there are no facilities. Moreover, she does not like Raju giving more preference to Seeta. Parallelly, Vasu becomes a Police officer and he is in search of Sarabhaiah. Rangaiah also releases from jail.

Meanwhile, Sundaramma goes to Saroja house when Raju is in camp, on that night she steals jewelry of Saroja and gives it to Sarabhaiah. Seeta observes this and obstructs her but Sundaramma clearly throws the blame on Sita which Saroja also believes. Insulted Sita leaves the house in grief. Raju returns from camp. Knowing about this he scolds Saroja, she makes cutoff with him and leaves to her father's house. Rao Saheb slaps Saroja, makes her realize the mistake and sends her back.

She father. Rao Saheb gives money to Sundaramma and asks her to give it to Saroja. She gives the money to Saroja but steals the same. In turn Raju keeps office money at home and goes in search of Sita, Sundaramma steals Raju’s office money too. Raju saves Sita from committing suicide and after coming home police arrest Raju. Sita as she knows about Sundaramma, snatches money forcibly from her and goes to police station. Sundaramma, Rao saheb also go to police station. Is Raju Released? Does Sundarama’s theft come out? Does Saroja knows the truth, Did Sita marry Vasu?
