Aleksander Yurievich Gorkov (Russian: Александр Юрьевич Горьков; born January 10 1953) was a Russian military leader, Commander of the Anti-Aircraft Missile Troops of the Air Force (2000—2008), and a retired Lieutenant General.[1]
He was born January 10 1953 in Moscow to a military family.
His father Yury Gorkov (1928—2005) was a colonel-general, who commanded the 10th Separate Red Banner Air Defense Army (1979-1983), and was Chief of Staff - First Deputy Commander of the Troops of the Moscow Air Defense District (1983—1988).[2]
In 1975, Aleksander graduated with honors from the Minsk Higher Engineering Anti-Aircraft Missile Air Defense School.[3] After graduating, he served in command positions in the Air Defense Forces of Russia. He commanded an anti-aircraft missile battalion. In 1984, he graduated with honors from the G.K. Zhukov Military Command Academy of Air Defense in Kalinin (now Tver).[4][3]
After graduating from the academy, he served as commander of an anti-aircraft missile regiment and deputy commander of an air defense division.[5] In 1995, he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.[3]
From 1995 to 1998, he was a commander in the Air Defense Division. From 1998 to 2000 he was the Deputy Commander of the Order of Lenin of the Moscow Air Force and Air Defense District
.From September 2000 to February 2008 he was Commander of Anti-aircraft Missile Troops[6]
in the Air Force.Since February 2008, Gorkov has been in the reserves (upon reaching the age limit for military service). He worked as an adviser to the general director at MKB Fakel in Khimki. He lived in Moscow.
He received a Laureate of the Government of the Russian Federation on December 17 2012 for a significant contribution to the development of the Air Force.
He was designated an Honored Military Specialist of the Russian Federation on February 14 2007.
