Adam James Dance[1] is a 32 year old British politician who has been the Member of Parliament for Yeovil since 2024. A member of the Liberal Democrats, he gained the seat from Marcus Fysh, a member of the Conservative Party.[2]
Dance was born in Yeovil. He attended Stanchester Academy. Despite his dyslexia, he was able to succeed academically and studied construction and landscape gardening at Taunton and Yeovil colleges.[3] He went on to graduate from Warwick Business School in 2023.[4]
Dance has been a member of South Petherton parish council for a number of years, and has been Chairman of the Parish Council at various times.[5] He was also an elected as a member of the former South Somerset District Council prior to its abolition.[6]
In the local elections held on 5 May 2022 Dance was elected as a member of Somerset Council, and became the Lead Member for Public Health, Equalities and Diversity, with responsibilities including political responsibility for public health services such as improving the health of the local population, public health nursing and commissioning, and the Community Safety Partnership.[7]
Dance was selected as a prospective parliamentary candidate in April 2023,[8] with his candidacy in the following general election confirmed in June 2024.[9] His bid was endorsed by former Liberal Democrat leaders Nick Clegg[10] and Vince Cable.[11] Dance ultimately won the election with a 25.2% majority.[2]
In a 2023 interview, Dance revealed that he has ADHD.[12] He also identifies as a member of the LGBT community.[13]: 9 Dance cites Paddy Ashdown as his political inspiration.[14]
