Description

[edit]

A WikiProject designed to improve the coverage of National Parks in the UK including all the individual national parks of the UK, matters to do with the parks (e.g.fracking, building in national parks, development) and other things that are related to the parks. In the future, this WikiProject could get child WikiProjects or task forces for the individual national parks (like there are individual WikiProjects for English counties, like Wiltshire or Warwickshire), this would help this WikiProject expand and stay active.  Seagull123  Φ  13:51, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
The other WikiProjects are too general and vague to properly deal with UK national park matters, while this WikiProject would be the right size to spend enough time dealing with these matters.

Discussion

[edit]

Having worked on the Exmoor article and briefly looked at the other relevant articles, I think this may be too specific for a separate wikiproject. I believe there are 13 national parks in England and Wales and a couple in Scotland, and therefore I would suggest this might work better as a task force of Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography. An alternative might be to include Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty which are more numerous, but have a lower level of protection and face similar development and conservation issues (eg proposed fracking on the Mendip Hills). I doubt if there would be enough editors interested in the specific of National Parks to make this a viable project.— Rod talk 16:10, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that this seems like an overly specific WikiProject and would be adequately covered within WP UK geography and/or WP Protected areas. Fredlyfish4 (talk) 17:03, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I concur with the above. I think a taskforce would be more appropriate - if there is a dedicated group of editors interested in this. I can help set up a taskforce as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Protected areas, but general UK geography (i.e. outside protected areas) wouldn't be part of it. --ELEKHHT 03:07, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
