Description

[edit]

WikiProject on all things related to the Grand Canyon, as the scope seems to outpace a taskforce (that would not have a fitting parent WP anyway) Kingsif (talk) 07:58, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
The scope of the Grand Canyon topic is much larger and broader than any one of these groups, several of which could focus only on certain specifics and for which the Grand Canyon and related articles are not a major concern in the existing groups' focus. There are extensive articles that primarily focus on the Grand Canyon and directly related topics, as well as the main article being a level 3 vital article, denoting greater significance. Several of the more relevant existing groups are also barely active and could not devote time to improving the important articles. I also think that the widespread interest of the Grand Canyon as a wonder of the world will attract more editors to the topic directly rather than through other projects. Kingsif I think you should propose a WikiProject dedicated to canyons overall rather than just one specific canyon seeing how there are a significant amount of articles about the subject. Jerm (talk) 16:16, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I do disagree: most canyons can be covered by geology, while the Grand Canyon has prominent heritage and tourism elements. WikiProjects can also die quite quickly but my guess is that being interested in a unique feature like the Grand Canyon would prevent losing editors. It has hundreds of articles of coverage, so it's not going to be lacking. Kingsif (talk) 13:57, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but what you said, all canyons heritage and tourism elements. This WikiProject would actually die really quickly. It would edit a bunch of Grand Canyon articles, then have nothing left to do. It might be a better idea to make a WikiProjects for all canyons, and then make a taskforce specifally for the grand canyon. At least for now, I definetly oppose this WikiProject, and believe it is a waste of editors time and giving undue weight. Starship SN20 (talk) 20:17, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You clearly don’t understand WikiProjects (nobody is forced to work on them, not that any improvements could be a waste of time, and they are made based on a certain area with large article scope needing attention, no “undue weight”!) or, I think, editing in general (there is no “end” to editing articles on the Grand Canyon, nor any subject, as new information is discovered and improvements can be made to prise etc. anyway, so there isn’t a point left with nothing to do!), so I give your opposition negative weight, thanks.
