The accusation is quite ridiculous. Looking at the timeline of Mangoeater100, I was not even at NYU when that account operated. Futhermore none of my edits added puffery or where troublesome. I edited extensively several college articles not related to NYU. Given that the account that accused me is an SPA [1], that only edits Tandon article, that account ought be checked not mine.--FRDHU (talk) 00:09, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Vanjagenije: Mangoeater fixates on New York University of its Tandon School of Engineering. Compare to edits of past socks who also edit on the school's page: Special:Contributions/Ringopop, Special:Contributions/Iranian_gal, Special:Contributions/Enrique_Almighty. Similarly, recent socks have a habit of popping up after a few months, past edits being on other university pages (e.g. [8], [9], [10], [11], [12], [13]. Current sock has edited on Carnegie Mellon-related pages ([14]), as has past sock ([15]). Same for Boston University (current, old). And New Jersey Institute of Technology (current, old, both updating same info). And Fordham (current, old). Current sock was disruptive on NYU page back in January, talking about promotional edits, something socks of Mango have done before. The only new thing about this account is it's editing on Thailand articles instead of Iran or Islamic-related ones. Basing some of this off of Wikipedia:Long-term_abuse/Mangoeater1000 for ease. This account's first edit was a talk page message regarding New York Institute of Technology, one of the many pages Mangoeater targets ([18]). This edit was out of the blue and shows a knowledge of wiki syntax as well as happenings about that article.

Mangoeater likes to edit college ranking info. This account has done so a number of times ([19], [20], [21]). Compare to past socks: [22], [23]

This account removed negative info about New York University, Mangoeater's favorite topic ([24]).

To me, this is quacking. I know everyone's level of DUCK is different, but the association between topics and behavior is there. Magoeater is a prolific socker. Asking for CU for sleepers and connection to past socks. I've seen a number of accounts that were suspicious but didn't have time to pull diffs on. See Wikipedia:Long-term_abuse/Mangoeater1000 for some history. Mango likes to edit on NYU related pages, often in ways that boost its reputation (e.g., [25]). Mango socks have edited about alumni before (e.g., [26]). This editor has edited extensively (100+ edits) on New York University, many of which are about alumni or some other prestige issue (e.g., [27], [28], [29], [30], [31]).

Adityaedits has edited on pages past Mango socks have edited on:

Mango is a prolific socker who seems to vary his editing interests to throw off suspicion (e.g., he was editing articles about Iran for a bit). But NYU was always a central focus. That trend seems apparent here as well. EvergreenFir (talk) 20:57, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Adding evidence for BrownAlumnus: Past Mango sock have edited in ways on Brown University to reduce info about the prestige of the school. For example, he has removed info about rankings from the lead and edited to put the actual endowment into question (e.g., [32], [33], [34], [35], [36], [37], [38]). BrownAlumnus shows similar behavior ([39], [40]). They have interacted with past socks ([41], [42]) as well. The evidence here is admittedly more tenuous (and there are other Brown-related usernames that I couldn't find enough evidence for), but the pattern appears similar enough to warrant investigation. @GeneralizationsAreBad and DoRD: I wasn't 100% sure on Notable Sweety, but the evidence suggested it was Mango. But if Notable Sweety is confirmed to those other three, I'm 99.8% sure it's Mango.

Some of Mango's main target pages per Wikipedia:Long-term_abuse/Mangoeater1000 are New York University (NYU), List of New York Institute of Technology alumni, and New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). Mango likes to edit about alumni and faculty, especially their awards and achievements, and university rankings (e.g., [51], [52], [53], [54], [55], [56], [57], [58], [59], [60]).

Chan-ocha made a series of disruptive edits related to the late Thai king (e.g., [61], [62], [63], and even on New York Institute of Technology). A past Mango sock named Adityaedits edited on Reactions to the death of Bhumibol Adulyadej ([64], [65], [66]). Chan-ocha edited within minutes of other socks (Tin Soldier and Trepcost for example). Note that Chan-ocha and Tin Soldier matched back in the 12 December 2016 report and were blocked as socks. This behavior of self-interaction is seen in this edit between two Mango socks Brown Alumnus and Eagle Beagle Giggle ([67]).

Trepcost started with a series of edits on New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine back on 28 May 2016. NYIT is one of Mango's targets. They resumed in November with edits on NYIT (e.g., [68], [69]). Trepcost made ranking related edits on a number of university pages ([70], [71], [72]). Trepcost made a number of edits on NYIT's alumni page, adding alumni ([73], [74], [75], [76],

Adam Parori edited on the Tandon article promoting its accomplishments (e.g., [77]). Mango has an extensive history of socking on this article (socks: FRDHU, Skm415, Ringopop, Iranian gal). Adam Parori edited in the list of alumni for NYU, a common Mango target ([78], [79], [80]). Adam Parori edited to discuss NYU's rank ([81]).

I noticed that Brew swick (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) created Jill Wruble, a person added by to the NYIT alumni page and subsequently wikilinked by Trepcost ([82]). Similarly, Brock Lender (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) created Ben Finley which is another NYIT alum and Trepcost wikilinked to that page ([83]). Should I add another SPI for those users, or can you just check it in this report? I've seen Mango do this before, but don't want to dig for diffs (esp. since delete pages are hard for me to find). I think the sock net is wider than the CU indicates based on this... (or maybe a paid editing ring?)

Taken together, these exhibit classic Mangoeater1000 behaviors to me.

Most probably, these are all conspiracies of the Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/The abominable Wiki troll, taking revenge against me because I got many of his IPs and accounts blocked recently. I'm a doctor who graduated from New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. I edited Wikipedia extensively, and none of my edits constitute vandalism (unless you think updating rankings or adding notable alumni that pop up in the alumni category page are vandalism). The purpose of these kinds of investigations are to find and block accounts that are distructive, not the ones that edit contructively. That said, I just read Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Mangoeater1000, and I find it highly amusing, and a waste of time for everybody involved. I personally don't think that a university of the stature of NYU or Brown University could use "boosterism" on Wikipedia. Category:New York University alumni, has over 4000 notable alumni with Wikipedia-articles,[84] while Brown University has nearly 1600 notable alumni.[85]. Naturally people will try to add alumni to those articles, but if you keep blocking all the ranges from where they edit, you are essentially blocking people from building Wikipedia. I'm a very busy person in real life and don't have time for this ridiculous crap, but I guess many people who edit Wikipedia these days don't have much work in real life.--Trepcost (talk) 21:42, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My suggestion: Since you guys seem to have problem with @Mangoeater1000: editing university alumni, achievements, awards, endowments, and rankings,[86] I suggest that you unblock Mangoeater1000, put a topic ban on him for university and university-related articles, and let them know that if they ever create any more sock, then they will be banned forever. @EvergreenFir: I think the site-ban was done in a hurry with the few voting there, not actually doing a proper research on this editor. I checked some edits of Mangoeater1000, the original account, and it seems they were misinformed on how Wikipedia works. It doesn't look like they were vandalising or intentionally making disruptive edits. Also, I noticed that the first sock investigation from 28 July 2012,[87] and some subsequent ones were done while Mango was unblocked, and was not edit-warring with anyone.[88] I don't know why the sockpuppet investigation was opened in the first place. These accounts have been recently disrupting Mercy College (New York) and the talk page (accounts #2 -- #4 are already blocked due to duck).

Roostcadge added a protected edit request mentioning "for some reason" the article was reverted to old version: Special:Diff/903950137. The other accounts were restoring sock edits at the article: Special:Diff/902746510 (restored Dino Moro and Karperfish's edits).
