Operator: Anomie

Automatic or Manually assisted: Automatic, unsupervised

Programming language(s): Perl

Source code available: User:AnomieBOT/source/tasks/TemplateSubster.pm

Function overview: subst templates in Category:Wikipedia templates to be automatically substituted

Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): WP:BOTREQ#Substing the uw-templates

Edit period(s): continuous

Estimated number of pages affected: Depends on how many templates need substing

Exclusion compliant (Y/N): Yes

Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Yes

Function details: I know there have been a number of bots in the past that have substed some specific templates, and it may well be the case that these bots eventually go away. Just now we have a request for bot-substing of the user warning templates. The thing to do, in my opinion, is to create a category for all templates that should be bot-substed so a bot can process them all without having to get approval for each different bot processing each different template.

Detail on just how the bot will work is at User:AnomieBOT/docs/TemplateSubster, which will also be linked from the edit summaries.

Sounds good. Is the bot ready for a trial? - EdoDodo talk 15:20, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Once the trial is started I'll mark some of the uw templates for auto-substing to give it something to do. Anomie 18:01, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Approved for trial (7 days). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Okay. - EdoDodo talk 18:04, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Trial complete. Normally I would give links to the edits, but with 6014 I think I'll skip it this time. They all have summaries along the lines of "Substing templates: ((foo)). See User:AnomieBOT/docs/TemplateSubster for info." There was a slight issue at one point where ((singlenotice)) was accidentally marked for substing, but that was a human error rather than a problem with the bot.  Approved. I havn't looked through all the edits but the ones I have looked through all look flawless, so approved. Good luck! - EdoDodo talk 14:50, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
