I am uneasy with the inclusion of Nixon’s dog Checkers. All other animals in this article are limited to those owned during presidencies. Checkers was dead by Nixon’s presidency.
This got me thinking, since Checkers was owned during Nixon’s vice presidency, that we might want to research and compile a corresponding article on United States vice presidential pets. Details might be more scarce (particularly on early VPs), but that can be noted. Pets I can find at a cursory look are:
I'd like to change the existing table, primarily to make it sortable by (notably) pet type. There's currently no way to easily find all Presidents with horses or pigs or dogs.
To do that, I propose having the following columns
President & pictures - would sort by order in office. Each would span the rows containing their pets.
Name - would have the name of the pet. I think that some would have multiple names, such as "Him & Her". Each pet would typically have its own row.
Type - would have a general type, followed by a dash and a more specific type/breed. This would allow for a sort, letting you see, for instance, all dogs sorted together. Or see all dogs that are spaniels. Examples:
Dog - Spaniel
Bird - Parrot
Cow - Durham
Notes - This would contain any notes on the specific pet.
It would take quite a lot of work, but would be interesting. But before starting, I'd appreciate feedback, as I'd hate to spend all of the hours doing it only to have someone revert it. RSStockdale (talk) 22:31, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't thinking of pictures of the Presidents. I was thinking of the pictures that are currently in the table, although a few do show the President along with the pet. RSStockdale (talk) 12:07, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
