Within the profession of audio engineering, the term tri-amping is not new. It is a small scale implementation of what goes on in large installations. It is common practice to provide a separate amplifier for subs, mids and tweeters and yet more independent amplifiers if there are many drivers for each of these frequency ranges. A 15kW rig does not use one 15kW amplifier, three 5kW stereo amps are more likely, and a design of six mono amps is also more likely.
