"The Sound of Silence" (originally "The Sounds of Silence") is a 1964 debut single by Simon & Garfunkel and is the leading single from their debut studio album Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.. It went to number 1 in the United States, Japan and South Africa, number 2 in New Zealand, number 3 in Zimbabwe, Australia and Austria, number 10 in the Netherlands and number 4 in Canada. It was covered by Paul Simon in 1974. In 2015, it was covered by American alternative band Disturbed for their sixth studio album Immortalized. It went to number 42 in the United States, number 4 in Australia, number 29 in the United Kingdom, number 31 in Ireland, number 32 in New Zealand and number 1 in Austria.
