Newburgh /ˈnuːbɜːrɡ/ is a city located in Orange County, New York, United States, 60 miles (97 km) north of New York City, and 90 miles (140 km) south of Albany, on the Hudson River.[1] It is the location of Washington's Headquarters. Interstate 84 goes very close to the city.
There is a long history of racism in Newburgh and the Hudson Valley.[2][3] During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was rioting in Newburgh because the police killed a black person.[4]
Troy and Newburgh had the highest levels of black children living in poverty, with 73 percent in Troy and 65 percent in Newburgh. Crespo said that there is a direct link between poverty and low educational achievements, unemployment rates, increase substance abuse rates and incarceration.
