San Bartolo Coyotepec is a toun an municipality locatit in the centre o the Mexican state o Oaxaca. It is in the Centro Destrict o the Valles Centrales region aboot fifteen km sooth o the caipital o Oaxaca.[1]
The toun is best kent for its Barro negro pottery - black clay pottery. For hunders o years pottery haes been made here wi a gray matte feenish, but in the 1950s a technique wis devised tae give the pieces a shiny black feenish athoot pentin. This haes made the pottery far mair popular an collectable.[2][3] The toun is hame tae the Museo Estatal de Arte Popular de Oaxaca (State Museum o Popular Airt o Oaxaca) which wis opened here in 2004, wi a lairge portion o its collection consistin o barro negro pottery.[4] Thare is a barro negro mural on the recently opened Baseball Academy an aw.[5]
